I've had one sitting beside my bed all morning and it hasn't killed anyone yet. So jif... isn't it interesting that the first two were killed in a state with some of the most oppressive gun control laws?
Thats funny my guns didn't jump up and shoot anybody either today or the past thirty years. But I'm watching the sneaky bastards....You just never know. Amazingly I held a dove hunt on the farm yesterday with 40 people participating from 9 -79 years old and people were laughing and sociallizing and having a great time. Not once did I see a radical firearm jump up from its case to endanger a human being. Now I'm going out on the ledge with this but it might just be some deranged puke of a person who intends on killing another human being no matter what...
Joel, why do you want to go down this road again? The last time you did this, it became ugly. Why can't you respect the rights and preferences of the good people here, just as they respect your rights and preferences. It's a no-win argument that just ends up rankling everyone. This isn't yanking the chains of Notre Dame fans. It's attacking your fellow law-abiding citizens who are exercising responsibly their rights under our constitution. You certainly have a right to say whatever you want here, but I respectfully suggest you give it a rest.
Thank you for airing your opinion Sid...However, I would like the wives of those 3 latest cops who were killed this weekend have a say. BUT you and I will never know their thoughts. I could care less about rules and regulations our forefathers instituted way back in the horse and buggy days. Guns find their way into wrong hands more often then not. jif
We have laws that make killing illegal but people kill. What kind of idiot believes that if you pass a law making owning a gun illegal it will stop killers from owning guns?
jif, As Sid said, you have a right to your opinion, and certainly to state it. It doesn't bother me which way you go. I would like to know tho... Assuming all gun ownership was outlawed do you believe those who kill cops would be stopped by that law? :?:
Jif, I appreciate your passion for law enforcement, honestly. Unless someone else on this board can say they currently have three family members who are policeman and a father that retired after 32 years of service I have a deep appreciation for law enforcement officers. It does not change my feelings on firearms nor their complementing opinion on firearms. It is never the weapon because honestly anything can become a weapon. It is the troubled person behind the criminal act that is the problem. We can without thinking give up our rights as Americans because in the moment the decision makes sense and honors those who have been injured. Or we can honor those men and woman who lost their lives in wars against other countries for two hundred years who would without measure take away our choice of rights to own firearms. We probably have the most freedom given a culture in modern time, let us always consider what we so easily would give away because of a few disturbed individuals.....
We've been down this road before, Joel basically would like to disarm the population, including hunters.
Responsible people should be able to acquire weapons no matter how stringent the requirements and background checks are. Irresponsible, unstable people or criminals should not be able to acquire weapons..... period. Criminals still will find a way I know..... but I say let's limit the available weapons and you will limit them on the street as well. I have seen too many shootings here in Florida that were the result of irresponsible use of weapons that probably should not have been available to the shooters. It's the ol "have gun will use it mentality" that gets people in trouble. Too many cowboys out there think that's the reason they own a gun.
Joel....if nobody has a gun, why do the cops need a gun? The Bobbies didn't carry guns in the old days.
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will... My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit... My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will... Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!
