front and center this Sunday for the Browns. Celebrated with 45Lb cake loaded with money of course. Ted Johnson, one of Joel's buddies from the Pats, is a local sports personality on Radio. Said he'd love to come out of retirement for 1 play, and get a shot at taking JFF head off on a blitz. His co-host reminded him he'd have to aim low to do that...reference to the Bengal's coach who called him a midget. I'll be watching!
Me too...I hope that none of those guys take cheap shots at him. His self promotion is pretty hard to take, but he's done nothing to disrespect the game, the NFL, or any other players to my knowledge. Cake is pretty smarmy. My understanding is that his friends and the bakery owner came up with the cake. It's not like he designed it himself.
Yesterday was pretty much of a bust. He has a long way to go, I hope the fans can be a bit patient. The Browns have a lot of problems to solve.
He certainly did...but the whole team was a bust. Defense was absolutely carved up by long drives...gave up 244 yards on the ground...194 of it between the tackles. Manziel had no time at all...the Bengals only blitzed twice but still were all over him all game. Went through the O-line like butter. He looked rattled and made mistakes. But he had a lot of company. In their defense, the Browns have been racked by injuries to their best players...and they just don't seem to have the depth some teams do. We're on our fourth center. The JFF hype is now officially over. We'll see if they can buckle down and get past this.
I would say Marvin Lewis backed up his "midget" comment with interest. Manziel looked short, confused and with a weak arm. I am sure he is a much humbler person today.
Due to my fantasy team, I've had to follow the Browns for most of this year until I gave up on the player who I had on the roster. Their OL hasn't regained any form since they lost their center. Hoyer was able to be a game manager behind a run game with 3 backs to choose from. Then Tate got hurt and they were left with 2 RBs who were okay.. then the OL injuries started piling up. Then the other injuries started piling up. Basically, JFF got a trial by fire. Not making excuses for the kid because he didn't look good at all. At the same time, there aren't many QBs who could do much with that Browns offense in front of them.
that's true, but they are Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers... and while I get the Schadenfreude angle, I don't think people realize just how horse **** the Browns have been for the past month... (apologies to Browns fans reading this) Honestly, better QBs have looked worse early in their careers.
Terry, he's the starter for the season. Playoff chances are gone, and they need to see just what he's got because they have 2 first round picks coming next year. Problem is just what Corey laid out. How can you evaluate him behind such a wounded offense?
Agreed Corey, and I would feel for him except for the fact that I'm not sure JF has really killed himself preparing for this chance. Maybe he will do better this week.
KP, Oh I'm with ya! There's a big 'eff this guy' angle when watching this because honestly, he's been a dick the entire time. I'm just not ready to jump at the 'he sucks' bandwagon that too many people are quick to latch onto.. It's early. People forget that Rodgers sat forever behind Favre... people don't seem to groom QBs anymore. It seems real clear that the Jets **** the bed with Sanchez. Sometimes, there's just no quick fix. I know you know all this.
yeah, Manziel taunts others so yes there is a certain satisfaction in the fact that after sacking him the DL's taunt him. He may turn out to be great and I think he said something about a great start when he was drafted. This is kind of like the Tebow situation in another way. Obviously success at the college level does not automatically mean success at the pro level. I think it takes hard work and study. Drawing plays in the dirt won't cut it. 8)
Good points. One of my favorite plays in the past several years was this past Sunday when Rey Maualuga sacked Manziel and then got the penalty for taunting him. Partially for the obvious schadenfreude for JFF, but really, I enjoy watching Rey Rey's stupid ass get penalties because he's such a troglodyte that he gets hammered for penalties that others don't. I think he lost an INT due to a penalty in that game as well. My hatred for USC doesn't stop when they leave school.. Oh no.
