Ohio State is this years leader in football attendance, followed by Texas A&M, Michigan, LSU and Penn State. The Sec continues to be the conference leader in overall attendance. However, things are changing and fans are being a bit more choosy for their dollars spent. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jon-solomon/24891415/college-football-attendance-home-crowds-drop-to-lowest-in-14-years
it's out of control and it has to be stopped otherwise, there will be consequences. The cost of many of these games isn't suitable for students, young families looking to stay connected with dear old alma mater or even the family looking for a fun, local event. TV owns the sport. It has for a very long time, but now we're seeing the strung out, twig like carcass walking the corners that was turned out by their pimp daddy, television. People at the big dogs continue to laugh it off because, 'well obviously you couldn't compete' but people don't seem to notice that the number of 'big dogs' shrinks by the season... Something better change soon
Like most major sporting events, attendance requires a substantial investment of money, time and inconvenience.
Corey, agree with you completely. George, always the analyzer! I was amazed at the increase in attendance by the Aggies! Scott, is that attributed solely to the new stadium?
Most successful schools aren't suffering too much (yet). Purdue; who's gonna want to commit the time and money to watch the crappy football that's been going on for the last 6 or 7 years? I still think that Darrell Hazell will turn it around. But will you get the people back? Dunno. Michigan; those folks likewise don't want to waste their time and money and continually have their expectations crash. Sometimes I think that these athletic directors think that a big scoreboard and some kind of carnival-type, manufactured atmosphere can replace having a good product on the field.
well, the nature of the beast dictates that upwards of 40% of them are going to be losers in any given year. There will be another 25% that are somewhere in and around .500 give or take a game or so.. that leaves the remaining 35% that will be 'winners' during a year. I think these guys might be trying to squeeze too much out of the turnip.
One thing I don't understand about Colleges, esp with all the money from TV contracts flowing into the coffers, is why any of them would do anything but make the students a deal they can't refuse. Why would they even consider not making student tickets very very affordable, not free but very cheap.
A&M will have an drop next year, the 110K numbers were a one time thing due to the way the stadium expansion is being done. Next year's max will be 102k. The tickets are VERY expensive for donors, but that is to subsidize the 30k students so they get them at half price. At this point... with all the money the SEC network is supposed to pull in, I'd sure like a little price break. BTW... they are going to implode the West side on Dec 21 at 8 am if anyone wants to watch. 8)
102,512 was the last number I saw... not sure if that is still exact, but it will be right around that.
