I think the key is whether charges are filed such as in the Texas situation where players were found in are car with a loaded gun and weed. I don't think charges have been filed re Arrington. Of course, since it seems half of the Texas judiciary received free tickets to Longhorn games, maybe the filing of charges is just necessary step to receiving a dismissal from the court.
It's part of the Judical Code of Ethics as far as I know! Thou Shalt give Texas Longhorn Football players every possible break, esp if you are not already recieving tickets!
Just an update on the situation. I will say that at least Mack Brown suspended the 2 kids who were in the car with weed and a gun, and it was for a big game...Ohio State. It takes some time to get the fix in after all.
I am surprised that Michigan, where there is a large cadre of liberal feminists working on the faculty hasn't had a spasm of protest over this alleged domestic abuse. I guarantee you they would if W pushed Laura out of the limo while it was still rolling!
MICH/OH ST <r>If it were only possible for both of these teams to lose this game it would suit me fine. <E></E></r>
I've been wishing that for FSU vs. Miami for years. Although they came closest this year, it still hasn't happened yet.
Rumor has it that if Manningham is back Arrington will suffer the ultimate in Michigan punishment. He will not be announced as a starter.
You slay me, Gip! I trust that if there is substance to this, as there seems to be, Lloyd Carr will punish the man...maybe it won't be the same fate that he'd receive at Notre Dame, but I believe it will be dealt with.
Hernstreit was on a national radio program today and described the article as a slanted hachet job which isolated his criticisms and left out his positive comments. I believe him. I enjoy watching him on ESPN and think he bends over backward to be objective in his comments about M's program. Early in the season, while you were frothing at the lips waiting for the Irish to thump M in South Bend, Herbstreit was on record predicting that M was going to have an outstanding team this year. Not many people were doing that at that time, even the most ardent of M fans. Right now, M is in a slump. The very physical Penn State and Iowa games took a tool on our offense with the critical factors being Manningham out with an injury and Hart not being as effective as he was due to injuries. Manningham should be back this week but if Hart is not healthy by the 18th, we will have problems in Columbus since M's ability to pass is contingent upon its ability to run. Without Hart, our running game sputters, our pass protection then breaks down, leading to a break down of our passing game. If Hart and Manningham are healthy, M will be extremely hard to defense. H's point how a spread offense reduces the hyperagressiveness of M's defense is a good one. M's defense was somewhat passive and position oriented for the early portion of the NW game and were burned by quick slant passes. They played with more abandon as the game went on and ended up manhandling NW offense but it was pretty clear that the spread offense had our defense back on its heels for a period of time. My guess is that video is being closely looked at in Columbus.
Bobda glad to see you peek your head out from behind that pile of work!! I'm shocked that journalist would take comments out of context and use them to rile up the masses!! Terry
More often than not Herbie gets hammered in Columbus for not showing more love to his alma mater. My view is that he's by and large very objective, knowledgeable, stays well informed and loves the game. It would be uncharacteristic of him to simply lay the hammer down on somebody....even those guys. re: The game.....it appears as if injuries will be the real wild card. If Manningham is not full go and can't get back to a high level of play and Hart is gimpy, M will struggle. I just don't see them putting enough points on the board to keep up. I have great respect for M's defense but I just don't see anybody shutting down this offense. They are as multi-faceted as any offense we've had in my memory. They can spread you out, go 5 wide (excellent depth at wr) and be effective with the underneath passing game, obviously with Ginn and Smith's arm, the deep threat is meaningful and they can line up in the I formation and run downhill with a solid o-line and a very good back. The O-line typically keeps Smith well protected but he is a strong runner and can get freaky in space if the opportunity presents itself. Opposing defenses often effectively have to take a defender out of coverage to spy him. That said, WR Gonzales and one of our best OL Boone got dinged up last week. Big losses both.....Pitcock our best Dlineman is also questionable. Those 3 guys would be big losses and absolutely critical for the Stripehead game. Without Pitcock and with a healthy M offense, my fear is that the Buckeyes could struggle keeping M off the field.
For the record I like Herbie better than any of the analysts/color commentators that are on the air these days. He's a good one.
Once again proving that Bobda is a class act. Herbstreit wouldn't hold back if he saw a weakness in Michigan, but I just don't see him talking disrespectfully about Breston the way that article makes it sound. My friends who are Michigan fans actually make the same point...that since Manningham got so hot last year Breston has not been a major part of the offense. He is one hell of a punt returner, though...he may not have Ted Ginn's speed but he is extremely elusive.
Obvious attempts by both schools to make the other over confident. M looks just like it did in its first 2 games showing nothing. In 2 weeks, they'll pull out the plays that they've been working on in practice for the previous 4 weeks. You can do that when you don't need "style points" and have a week schedule.
They earned it by getting big wins early in a dominating fashion over highly ranked teams. Since the ND game the UM offense has been just ok nothing spectacular, the UM defense has carried them in a lot of ways. And Ohio State has been very solid on both sides of the ball. Everybody else has had no big wins over highly ranked opponents, they've at best had close wins and a lot of non-dominating victories over lesser opponents. Ergo UM and OSU are currently considered a notch above the competition and are allowed to skate on weekends where they sleep walk through some wins. Not to mention that ESPN/ABC and everybody wants them to remain 1 and 2 till Nov 18th. Ratings bonanza weekend.
.....and sleep walk they did. After a fairly workmanlike first half - not spectacular - just consistent working to a 17-0 lead at the half. In the second half, the offense fell asleep at the switch and appeared as if they were mailing it in. Very, very weak effort. We miss our big left tackle more than I'd realized....running game was non-existent in the second half. A good wake-up call.....that said, a win is a win. Just win baby. This may sound crazy, but I believe it to be true, this offensive game plan today -v- Illinois had more to do with getting ready for 11/18 than it did for 11/4. hmmmmmmm.....
With Ohio State and Michigan winning handily yesterday at Northwestern and Indiana, the long wait is now just a week away. Since the game has been moved by ABC to 3:30, it is going to be a bit strange. We have always played each other at noon on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. This should be one great shootout for any football fan! The Wolverines have been spoilers for us before and I am not taking this game lightly by any stretch of the imagination. However, I do hope Lloyd plays it close to the vest and plays not to lose! Don
I have never been anything but a true Blue Michigan fan when it comes to their game vs. Ohio State. This year may be an unfortunate exception because no way..no how do we need to see Mich-OSU round two in Arizona and if Mich wins that is what we may see after yesterday's turn of events.
