ND <r>well it looks as though IF we are going to a bowl game it's going to be either the Belk, Music City or Sun Bowl. <E></E></r>
ND <t>Just a few notes here guys. I haven't posted much over the last month or so simply because it hurts me a lot to see what has happened over that period of time with the team. I just didn't see any of this coming beginning with the NW game and concluding with the usc game which was just a total debacle. I thought the days of losing like that were gone with Willingham and Weis. yeah right.....<br/> <br/> Anyway I really just tried to stay away from any of the ND sites or boards including this one simply trying to avoid the hurt. It's hard to try to get excited about ND right now but no matter what I'm still and always will be ND fan, even when it's painful.<br/> <br/> On Golson...that shipped has sailed and we need to let it(him) go. As big of a supporter of him as I was at the beginning of this season, I'm now totally against him ever starting a game again for ND. His downside simply outweighs the up by a huge margin in my book. I don't know why it took Kelly so long to pull him except that he, like me, couldn't believe what he kept seeing and thinking it would get better. Golson has talent but...well we all know the rest. <br/> <br/> Kelly needs to start Zaire in any bowl game we go to and next season. Mr Golson needs to move on in life. <br/> <br/> I agree with the previous comments as far as needing a true OC. <br/> <br/> I don't know what to say on defense except this: after Schmidt went down the defense never was the same. Walk on or not....he was the leader and man out there for us on D. Couple that with a academics and injuries costing us a ton of player losses and....well we saw the results. so is the rest on the DC's shoulders? I guess part of it has to be. I was just shocked at the way they played starting with the NW game.<br/> <br/> As far as firing Kelly...no, not now. We know what that would cost us and minimally we know what kelly gives us. Despite the results of this season I think things have and will be better...I think.<br/> <br/> Anyway, who you gonna hire? I don't even want to go down that road.</t>
Well a little bit of good news, in recruiting. Jerry Tillery has signed some financial aid documents, which bind ND to him but not the reverse; however it is a pretty good sign that he's actually going to enroll. This after torturing ND fans all fall with visits to home state LSU events and leaving fans assuming that he would eventually flip to LSU. So it's a good bet now that he'll be enrolling at ND in Jan. Also we are close to offering a JUCO RB who had been an Oregon recruit and stashed in JUCO when they ran out of spots. He has good academics, not your typical JUCO kid that way.
Tillery may get one more chance to see LSU play in person. ESPN is picking them to play ND in the Music City Bowl. I do not like that matchup.
Corey Robinson 1st Academic All American. Pops must feel like he's 7 feet tall with pride for his son!
I'm glad you got that Sid I was afraid it might go over everybody's head! Did you guys watch the ND/Mich State game last night? It was a great game, we were of course scewed at the end of regulation by a no call but got the win in OT. Very exciting game. Jerian Grant looked great and soph PG DJ Jackson looked like the 5* player he was in HS. Could be a pretty good year. Brey has a mature team and that's what he does best, coach jr's and sr's. The Women buried the Terrapins just like we did in the NCAA's last year. But freshman flash Briana Turner left early with a shoulder injury. Having an MRI today. She is long and athletic and maybe could have matched up with UConn star Breanna Stewart who is maybe the best player in college basketball right now. Even though only a freshman, if she can't go or isn't a 100% that will hurt. UConn on Sat.
It looks like ND is starting to recruit JUCOs for the first time. No official announcement but they are talking to a RB now.
For the most part JUCO's are kids who can't make it academically to Div1, not all for sure. Larry Moriarity a Faust Era kid who was a JUCO was a good academic kid but had an injury and couldn't come as a freshman. So he played a year of JUCO and then transferred into ND. Josh Heuple was a JUCO kid who was just overlooked wasn't at all an academic risk, then the Pirate found him and brought him to OU. There are certainly other kids like that out there. This kid also is supposed to be a good academic kid who got caught up in the numbers game with Oregon and they told him to do JUCO and they'd bring him in later. So now he's considering ND. But we've obviously never been a big destination for JUCO kids, mostly though for academic reasons, there never has been a rule against it.
I'm watching Central Florida vs. East Carolina. They just called the same penalty as the controversial call in the ND-FSU game. The difference in this game is that there was only one flanker who engaged with the DB while the slot receiver ran the same route as our #88 ran for the TD, which of course was nullified.
Sid, I did not watch the game last night but I think Notre Dame would not have been called for that penalty had the WR had not been so obvious. He didn't even pretend to run a route. Anyway I was surprised ECU lost.
Good point, kp. Last night, it was obvious that the WR was executing a block, hence the engagement, similar to what happened in our game vs. FSU.
ECU gave the game away. They started taking a knee on 1st and 2nd downs which left 16 seconds on the clock for UCF to go 60 yards. The hail Mary with 5 seconds to go at the start of the play was completed with one of the defenders about to take his helmet off in celebration of what he thought was a victory. When the coach reviews that, he will be running laps until next season starts.
Notre Dame has offered a local kid here. I've seen him play and he's legit. http://www.timesdaily.com/sports/co...cle_6a64dd74-7b73-11e4-823b-3b98855c08fe.html
