Another thing to be thankful for this weekend. The ND football season is over.
A lot of kids who probably wouldn't have seen the field this year ended up starting in November. It probably bodes well for next year. We definitely could use bowl game practices.

And we are back where we were in the last 2 years of Davie, and Charlie and Willingham. Fans hatred of Kelly is pretty high, I know it's only the internet fans and that isn't the whole fanbase...or is it a pretty good representation of the fanbase?

It sort of takes the fun out of being a fan when the focus is so much on how your coach sucks.

Many (not all) fans would love to see Swarbrick fire Kelly on Monday and of course bring in Stoops, or Mullen or Dantonio, or Meyer, or Mora or Richt.

That was disgraceful. The team was beat coming out of the tunnel and it was written all over their faces. You will see more movement out of the zombies on "Walking Dead".

I tapped out at 7-42. USC must have shown considerable mercy on us to only score once more.

Yeah I really thought they would hang at least 70 on us.

Kelly is some what of a dead man walking.

Add another 577 total yards offense on Uncle Rico's resume. If he were the OC that would be a good thing.

Now before we invoke the injury excuse once again, remember that this is an average USC team with only 46 scholarship players.

USC has 76 players on scholarship, 72 recruited and 4 former walk-ons.

How did USC not score in the 4th qtr? Did they play student managers?

I don't think you guys actually understand how gutted the defense is. When you have a defense that has the staff problems we do, the offense adjusts to protect it. We do not.

ND fans are constantly citing Alabama as the goal or standard to return to in terms of style of play.

As I am typing this, Auburn has gained 625 yards on Alabama's defense (169 rushing+456 passing).

Against Miss State, they gave up 428 yards

The difference I see is that adjustments are made, week to week, to cover weakness and play to strength. We just keep doing the same thing over and over and over again.

    QB:

The Irish didn't punt after Zaire came in at QB...

    Defense:

We ran out of players on that side of the ball 5 weeks ago. Now Jay Hayes, Redfield and Matouska are hurt too. Other players had a broken rib; a fractured arm, a sprained ankle etc. We're down to ONE senior: Justin Utupo. He's a 5th year senior from Lakewood HS and he never started before. That's it. Everybody else was a freshman, red-shirt freshman or a soph. There isn't anybody else left.

Then we should certainly not accept some half ass bowl invite if for no other reason than to protect the health and welfare of the remaining walking wounded.

I am going to do a more detailed post mortem later., by position. That should lead to some lively discussion.

Already howling that the team should stay home. It's not going to happen and it shouldn't happen. The young players need all the extra practice time that they can get.

Going to be a full year of name calling amongst ND fans. If you don't hate Kelly, Jack Swarbrick, Fr. Jenkins, the BOT then you don't care about ND football. They are now by definition a bunch of clowns who only care about money and care nothing about the legacy of the football program. Win 7 or 8 games a year and they are ok with that. Yup it's going to be uglier than Davie's last year, than Ty's last 2 years, than Charlies last 2 years.

It's the age old argument. What is more important? The added two weeks of practice time with what's left of your lineup vs the possibility of losing to a second tier team on a 35 degree sloppy December night in Memphis or Boise.

I suspect they will take the payday but a loss in tha scenario will linger far longer than the extra practice time.

There is no payday, you lose money going to these games. But there is not a coach in the country who coming off a disappointing season won't gladly take the risk you mention to get the extra practice. Saban didn't stay home after a 6-6 season that included a loss to Louisiana Monroe and a 4 game losing streak to finish the season. He was 1-5 in the last 6 games only win was vs Fla. International. Went to bowl and got beat.
