the SEC fans who support the idea that kids should be able to go to the NFL before their 3rd year are livid. They're claiming that the Gurley situation and the Winston situation are examples of why we'll see kids start sitting out their 2nd or 3rd years waiting for the NFL. Some people are just delusional.
That's a shame, he started the season as a Heisman Trophy candidate, his first game of the season was a highlight reel in it's self. He was considered the best RB in a long time in college football, a sure 1s round draft choice. Then the autograph thing killed his Heisman chances, that costs him long term money...and the suspension costs him most likely being a 1st team All American but his draft status is still 1st rounder. Now with an ACL he's gone from the 1st round, somebody will take a chance on him in the 3rd or 4th round most likely but it's a risk. You don't know if he'll be the same back...ever. Who was the kid from Miami who hurt his knee in the 2002 NC game with Ohio State? I think some body took a chance on him and maybe he even had a couple of decent years but before that he looked like the 2nd coming of Emmit Smith. The South Carolina kid who tore up his knee just retired from the NFL at age 23. Kid was a great back, I hope he's another story like Jonas Gray sometime in the near future. As far as kids not playing to protect themselves from injury. I'm not buying that, if they are football players they want to play football. If they want to protect themselves from injury take up bowling or golf .
Terry, Agreed. KP, I thought of that, actually. There was a time the NFL would have preferred that to see how the knee will hold up. Now, I'm not so sure.
