Sitting in bed two days out of the hospital from partial knee replacement feeling like hell then watching a gutty UCLA team outplay my Irish the entire game then as coach Weis said " have a little luck" although the game winner was a thing of beauty by two seniors as if Brady does not pump fake that pass is picked off but he let Jeff S clear and the rest is history. Can you say a BCS saving catch? Maybe. Always liked UCLA here in basketball and Dorrell is doing a nice job out there so if did lose it wouldn't have bothered me as much. Now to the embarrassment of the day. OFFENSIVE LINE !!!!!! I always watch this and every single starter ought to go hide at what they showed today. Really hard to single anyone out as they were all equally bad. The replays were brutal. Sadly not one in game adjustment was made. We have problems there to say the least. UCLA has real good athletes on defense and appear to be well coached. I won't get into the defense as they are so sporatic its a trust issue to me and IMO we are not anywhere near what Weis knows he needs to get on that side of the football. They are leaving no stone unturned trying to land top HS kids on defense by everything you read on their efforts. I can just imagine the SKYBOX reports when they get a chance to post as it looked like a beautiful day in SB but what a game to suffer through then get the big W at the end. Go Irish !!
Hope the recovery is going well! Congratulations on a big time win today. Texas and Tennessee do much the same. To bad my Gators couldn't have done that last week.
Larry, good luck with your recovery. The Irish O-Line was totally dominated today from one the opening bell to the end. Ryan Harris and Bob Morton, both four year starters, were emasculated by the Bruins. Santucci was almost as bad. Young played great for a freshman. Sullivan was the best of the worst.
The Irish O-Line stepped up BIG TIME on that last winning drive...no one got anywhere near even being in the same zip code as Brady...I know they left 6 back to block on that last TD play, but hey!...good strategy that worked.
Thanks.. <t>For the kind words on the recovery. I guess what disappoints me the most about the O-Line is its not like we line up a bunch of freshmen and Sophs. I don't want to take anything away from the Bruin defense as they on this day just played their collective a---- off and beat us up. IMO the UCLA folks have to feel good about the future there. <br/> Pretty obvious Charlie's feelings on the play of the O-Line in the presser when asked about his thoughts he simply said " it was a real tough day at the office" and we all know what that means.<br/> <br/> As earlier posted the last drive was a thing of beauty. The pump fake by Brady did it. I was and still am stunned.</t>
Larry Quick recovery. As to the Irish O line, you just know when a kid who was playing HS football last year can beat out players who have been in the weight room for 2 and 3 years that he's good and they are not. OL is the most important part of a football team. It allows you to control the ball and therefore the game. As to the D, they really stepped up in the second half. They had 2 major breakdowns which resulted in UCLA TDs. Duke slipped on the first. Like the O line, the repair takes a couple of years at least. Lastly, I thought that the pass interference call was questionable at best. It came at a critical time. Fortunately we were able to overcome that bad break and win. This is especially true since the replay official's daughter's husband works for the California raisin producers.
Gipper... <t>Exactly on the pass interference call as even on one leg it brought me up off the bed. That was bogus to say the least but then all over the country their has been real poor officiating. I know this the guy at Rutgers yesterday takes no BS off these guys as he won't leave the field till he gets an explanantion and he was right to be furious.</t>
