In the midst of the problems today in sports, here is a breath of fresh air: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/xfgS1lvqX8I?rel=0" frameborder="0"></iframe>
He certainly has had a great career and I can't think of any thing he's done that other than dating a string of beautiful babes, that makes news off the field.
I know this is a thread hijak...but Craig Biggio is also guy who embodies all that you want your hero's to be. He was a great player, he has never had a hint of scandal, married a beautiful girl who's dad owned a bunch of GM dealerships here in Houston. Has 2 son's who were outstanding HS baseball players for St. Thomas HS (Basillian Order) and now attend Notre Dame. He is actually a college graduate from Seton Hall. He was there in Minute Maid the other night to root on Jose Altuve who broke his club record for hits in a season. Class act all the way.
You find class acts quite often if you look hard enough. However, the jerks outnumber them about 500 to 1.
Unbelievable, storybook finish to a great career. Yankees up 5-2 after 8 and need only 3 Oriole outs for the win. The Orioles tie it up 5-5 in the top of the 9th. Jeter comes to bat in the bottom of the 9th with runner on 2nd. He hits a walk-off single to score the winning run. Wow! (You could argue that the Orioles should have walked him intentionally to set up the double play. I surmise that Buck Showalter let him bat as a sign of respect, hoping of course that he would make an out.)
I'm sure Joel will be there in Fenway for Jeter's last game...if for no other reason than to make sure he actually does retire!!

Supposedly he helped whip up a few dishes on this Food Chanel superstar as well....The guy is legendary off the diamond as well....
I was living in Maryland for the most of Cal Ripken's career. Another example of just a good guy, at least there was never a hint of a scandal with him, his brother or his dad. He didn't do quite the tour Jeter did but he got a warm sendoff at his last trip around the AL ballparks.
In 40 years 100,000 people will say" I was at Jeets last game!" I was living in Boston in 1960 when Teddy Ballgame hit a dinger at Fenway in his last at bat. The Splinter then circled the bases, ran into the dugout, and it was over!
Johnny Bench hit a HR his last at bat as well. I think a season long farewell tour was way overdone and I think Jeter thought so too by his comments after the game. His average sunk to .253 from about .290 in the second half of the year. He will finish his career at .309 The coolest thing last night was after the game when Torre, Pettitte, Posada, Williams and Rivera appeared out of nowhere to greet Jeter. For Yankee fans, that's as good as it gets. Jeter said he would like to DH in Boston but not play the field. I think the Red Sox will give him a good send off. He always gave them the best he had to offer. Now, on to the lean years.....
Red Sox have something special planned besides a standing O every time he comes to plate...not sure what it is..but talking sport heads are hinting about something. Love to have sox use field announcers voice from yankee stadium each time he steps to plate. Now batting for NY ,number 2,Derek Jeeta...Jeeta! George..what was the name of the field announcer for 63 years..he passed 4 years ago...I met him in Jupiter 15 years agoo..lived in my sisters building in Jupiter winters.
The Players Tribune, eh. I'm telling you Jeter, don't do it...ride off into the sunset, enjoy life outside the lines. This will not end well, even though it's well intentioned. http://www.theplayerstribune.com/introducing-derek-jeter/
Ok, enough with the dead and the retired bums already.......Cards and Dodgers Friday nite baby!! BASEBALL LIVES!!
The Players' Tribune certainly is a bold, risky move. I hope it's successful. If so, it would provide unfiltered straight commentary without the affectations of the sports writers. Time will tell.
