Moving on... Irish 29 point favorite, Purdue lost to a MAC team last weekend. But we've seen this before. even last year Purdue lost big to Cincy and barely got by Indiana State before playing us off our feet and finally losing. Even in the 2012 season I think we had to have Tommy Rees come in and bail us out to get the win. So while I expect to win and I expect to win handily, I hope the players and coaches don't see it that way and come prepared to play a great game from the opening kick. Note: Their defense has given up 34 and 38 points to MAC teams. Sid are you going to the game? Go Irish.
Terry, at this point I don't plan to attend, but that could change. Apparently, there still are tickets available. I listened to some of the Purdue game on my car radio when I was between grandkid activities.. They are pitiful. I'll spare you specific examples. Suffice to say, they likely are no better than a mid-level MAC team......no offense to the MAC. In the past, I've always been cautious in evaluating the Purdue game for the reason you mentioned above, i.e., their ability to rise up vs. ND. However, this year I have no problem with the 29 point spread.
About halfway through the 4th quarter, I begin to worry about this game. Mostly because we have this history of winning big games and then following it up with a messy diaper. Anyone remember the beat down upset of Michigan only to get smoked by a Michigan State team coming off a beat down to Oregon only to man handle us in East Lansing? I do.
Corey, When it comes to the Purdue game, no one is more fearful than I, having sat through frustrating losses, some of which were upsets by Purdue, in the 60s and 70s. This Purdue team, however, has IMO a less than mediocre QB and other problems. For eample, on a 4th and 1 deep inside CMU's red zone, they made the 1st only to have it negated by 12 men on the field ON OFFENSE! This wasn't a guy who didn't get off the field in time. This was 12 players involved in the play. I was listening on radio, so I don't know where the 12th guy was. That's just one example of some of the stuff I listened to that made me much less fearful than in the past. Now watch them push us to the brink before we barely pull it out in the 4th quarter.
Thank you. No sarcasm...I really mean it. Most of y'all will be filled with pity for us by the 2nd quarter. By the third you will want the dogs called off, and you will quit watching out of sheer boredom and embarrassment (for us) by the fourth. Tim, however, will be in seventh heaven and will watch the whole thing and will enjoy every minute of the slaughter. He will want ND to call timeout at the end during their final drive to try to go up by 60. He will tape it and watch the replay...looking for ways you could have beaten us worse. Oh, the humanity!
ND <r>Please note that I did not start this thread. <br/> <br/> In the past, I have been accused of having a dislike of Purdue. <br/> <br/> I will not be baited into making any disparaging, hateful, distasteful, unkind, nasty, spiteful, slanderous or otherwise dirty remarks about the fine institute of higher education nestled in the wonderful city of West Lafayette in my HOME state of INDIANA. Home town of my brother with his wife and children, favorite University of my only daughter who now lives in Indianapolis with a great husband(who loves Notre Dame) and my two wonderful grandchildren.<br/> <br/> Purdue. University of my former favorite NFL player(Bob Greise) who was born in the same city of my birth, Evansville, IN. How could anyone have any disparaging words against a school that has produced such notables as Neil Armstrong, Gus Grissom, Herman Cain, Brian lamb and of course, Orville Redenbacher. Far be it for me to even attempt to tarnish the name of Purdue, Home of the Largest Drum in the world and the Boilermaker train and how could I ever forget...Purdue Pete, that great mascot. <br/> A school of great tradition and truly a credit to the BIG conference which they have been apart of for many years has much to be proud of. <br/> <br/> Every year I look forward to Notre Dame's game against Purdue on the gridiron when 2 great teams of tradition renew the battle for supremacy on the field.<br/> <br/> Once again that time draws near and I'm sure both teams have circled the date of the game on their calendars as one in particular they are looking forward to playing this year. <br/> <br/> I'm sure many of the Big Ten Skyboxers will be supporting the Boilers as they should.<br/> <br/> Here's hoping for a great game on Saturday and may the best team win. <br/> <br/> <br/> <E></E></r>
PS...certainly wasn't trying to bait you...just trying to inject a bit of humor into what is undeniable going to be a very long season for me.
I believe we have it! rep·ar·tee noun \ˌre-pər-ˈtē, -ˌpär-, -ˈtā\ : conversation in which clever statements and replies are made quickly Yay!    Synonyms 2. banter, sparring, fencing.
ND <t>Stu,<br/> <br/> I wasn't accusing you of trying to bait me. When I started writing my post yours wasn't on the board yet. Didn't see it until after I posted mine. Anyway, you would be the last person I would accuse of baiting me into making unkind remarks against your beloved Purdue.</t>
Stu, Your moderately injured blue uniformed brother will be rooting for the Boilers! Still waiting to hear from our brother from Nebraska though he may be preoccupied with baseball at this moment.
LOL! We need to find a medal for Tim. That was his greatest post ever and I've been reading his posts over 20 years... I don't fear Purdue. I agree with Sid that they look absolutely terrible and I hope they get well AFTER we pass them on the schedule...
HAHAHA I love the composure and restraint Tim. I'm so proud of you. I have zero interest in showing such restraint come USC week, but then again, you're a better man than I. As for the B1G... I really worry about Purdue and Michigan State.. both have habits of biting us when we're the better team.
ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I will not be baited, I will not be baited, I will not be baited....<br/> <br/> Damn, this is harder than I thought!</r>
