The team has completed their summer camp, has today off and will report to WHAC (Woody Hayes Athletic Center) Monday for final preparations for Navy on Saturday August 30, in Baltimore, Md. 12:00 Noon Now that the initial shock of Braxton Miller is gone for the season, all attention will be on J. T. Barrett, the heir to QB position, for this season. Coach Meyer says he is an excellent distributor, is smart and has a quick release. His leadership abilities are also noteworthy. An almost brand new offensive line appears to be about set. Decker is the only returning lineman from last season. Our offense will have to be changed a bit, but we have a lot of young talent with speed galore on this team. The defense and special teams should also be vastly improved over last year. (thank goodness) Looking forward to another college football season here in Columbus!
Don, hopefully your defense can step up. It sounds like the offense will move to the "do no harm" phase. :!:
I am trying to decide what will be of the most interest to me for the upcoming game with the Midshipman Saturday. The play of J.T. Barrett or how the new offensive line performs? It would appear me that J,T, will have the edge, in that he needs to only handle himself and his decision making. The line is a cohesive unit and more things can go wrong. Also interested how our stable of running backs will perform? That obviously related to the offensive line. We are going to miss Carlos Hyde and Braxton Miller.
Meyer names five captains for this season: Braxton Miller, quarterback. Jeff Heuerman, tight end. Michael Bennett, defensive tackle. Doran Grant, cornerback. Curtis Grant, linebacker Braxton will still be on he roster and travel with the team.
Interesting move, I'm sure it's been done before, but a player out for the season as a captain is an interesting move. Certainly gives the player his due, and in this case it's likely that he would have been a captain if he'd been healthy.
Braxton Millers's shoulder surgery successful this morning in Pensacola Florida! No further problems revealed.
Navy averaged almost 350 rushing yards last season. I am anxious to see how our new defense stacks up against teh Midshipman!
We've had troubles with Navy that's for sure. The best that we've played against them was the game in Dublin. Like the Bucks we had a month to prepare for their option offense. The first game is the best time to tangle with the Swabies.
George, Coach Meyer is stressing we do not want many three and out situations, or we will pay the penalty with Navy. Its all about ball control for Navy.
I agree with George, if you don't turn the ball over, OSU has more talent and size than Navy, but those Squids are sneaky bastards.
Kp, We have much more defensive depth this year. I am anxious to see how we handle or stop the Middies. On the surface we should win this one, even with a brand new QB!
No doubt the best time to play them is when you've had extra time to prepare for their style of offense. But I've seen them give us and other teams hell that have way more talent than they do and then get run over by Old Dominion the next week. I'm guessing Don remembers the Navy game in Columbus in 2009.
Where's Joel? He's supposed to be bustin' Ohio State balls for playing Navy!!! I mean the Sox are done and what else is there for him to do?
No, Joel thinks Navy is much better this year! He just dosen't like the Irish beating up on them.
