Interesting Loophole. I actually kind of like it, it's certainly a loop hole that could be exploited or get out of control. But as we all know there is so much money in college football that the major schools can afford to do this sort of thing. And for the kids they always face the prospect that if they come back for their Sr. Year that they will lose value. The article gives Marquise Lee as an example and I remember Matt Barkley going from overall #1 draft choice to a #10, he still got millions but coming back did cost him some money. Other players come back and improve their status, but it's always a risk. SEC Commish talked about how he wants to be able to take care of the players better than they do right now, invoking the cover the whole cost of going to college instead of just room/board/tuition/books. Not sure exactly what else they mean, I guess computers, printers, paper, maybe smartphones, tablets, etc? So this might be in the realm of helping kids who want to come back and get their degree to be able to do so and be protected from losing money. Not sure where they would draw the line, we've had a couple of kids who elected to give up their Sr. Year and not get drafted and didn't get a evaluation of being drafted high..so you could argue they didn't lose any value. These are kids who I'd like to see be able to come back and earn their degrees and do so under some scholarship program. Ag's Pay 50K
Very interesting. I believe it makes sense. I also believe it's likely to be used wisely and sparingly. Otherwise, the available pot of money would be drained in short order.
