I see why you switched teams...wow Astros are real junk. By the way 50 t0 60% of the fans these past 3 days are wearing Red Sox gear! I know Sox are Americas team...but what a disgrace for the city of Houston!!
3, 11, 26.....so if they're Americas team, then the Cards must be the Worlds team, so that makes the Yanks....
As for a serious answer to Joel. 1. As for your comment that the Astro's are a real junk team, remember our new owner sold off or gave away all of our players when he bought the team and our payroll 2 years ago was about 30 million dollars. We lost more than 100 games, then we lost a hundred games again. So yeah we aren't very good. However they have shown a little spark and aren't in last place anymore, unlike the last place Red Sox with a payroll of 5 or 6 times the Astros payroll. We have a couple of young players who seem to have some potential and supposedly more in the minors. The Astros approach to rebuilding is the subject of a Sports Illustrated cover article. 2. Nobody likes our new owner, who as I mentioned burned down the team and also raised ticket prices, raised the cost of concessions. So throw that on top of not putting a decent product on the field and you have what you have and that is poor fan support. Oh yeah he's screwed up the TV rights as well and is in a big lawsuit with Comcast Sports Network and the net result is that I and 60% of the city of Houston can no longer see the Astros on TV. 3. As far as a lot of Red Sox fans and the Sox being America's team.. But remember Houston is a town that has grown tremendously since the late 50's and most of that growth is people moving to Houston from other areas. So when the Cubs are in town you see a lot of Cubs fans at games, same for the Cardinals, Dodgers, and Yankee's. 4. Put a good product on the field and you'll see crowds again like back when Biggio, Bagwell and Berkman were stars. But Houston isn't a town where you can just turn on the lights at a sports park and crowds show up. You actually have to do something as a team to generate interest from the community. If the Sox sold off all their players and put a bunch of guys out there that belonged in the minors or on the bench some place else and you lost 100 games a few years in a row, would their still be sellouts at Red Sox games?
you talk the truth, Doc. You have 2 or 3 who have potential..plus a SUPER PLAYER in AAA just waiting for a call up.
