    :D

California high schools that have had 5 or more players chosen in the NFL draft in the last 20 years. This doesn't include those who signed as free agents.

Without a doubt nothing but impressive talent coming out of California for what seems forever, very nice...

Here are a few more talent rich factoids....

    - Clowney's former teammate at South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.), Stephon Gilmore, went No. 10 overall in 2010.

    - 14 states did not have a former high school player taken in the draft.

    - A total of 46 percent of all picks came from either Georgia, Texas, California or Florida.

    - Florida had the most picks with 44 total.

    - Florida had eight players selected in the first round.

    - St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had four more picks this year, bringing its total to 19 in the past 21 years.

    - Gregg Robinson (pick No. 2) and Odell Beckham (12) become the 27th and 28th players from Louisiana drafted in the first round over the past 20 years.

    - Beckham joins Peyton and Eli Manning as first-round picks from Newman (New Orleans).

    - Blake Bortles joins Andrew Wadsworth (1998), Gerard Warren (2001), Andre Johnson (2003) and Trent Richardson (2012) as players taken No. 3 overall from the state of Florida.

    - Central (Miami) and Serra (Gardena, Calif.) each had three grads drafted.

    - Ben Gardner and Shelby Harris both played at Homestead (Mequon, Wis.), and both were drafted in the 7th round.

    - 16 players were drafted to teams in their home state: Derek Carr, Keith McGill and Travis Carrie (Raiders), Marcus Martin (49ers), Jason Verrett (Chargers). Kevin Pamphile and Kadeem Edwards (Buccaneers), Blake Bortles and Brandon Linder (Jaguars). Mike Campanaro (Ravens), Mo Alexander and E.J. Gaines (Rams), Bennett Jackson (Giants), Avery Williamson (Titans), Ahmad Dixon (Cowboys), Jared Abbrederis (Packers).

    - Of the Final 2013 Xcellent 25 — Miami Central (4) had three players. De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) (8) had one.

    - Jordan Tripp of Big Sky (Missoula, Mont.) was the second player from Montana taken in last 20 years. He was taken in round 5 by the Dolphins. Ryan Leaf was the other, in 1998.

    - In the first round, three players were drafted from the the Sac-Joaquin Section in the Greater Sacramento area: Brandin Cooks (Lincoln), Jason Verrett (Rodriguez) and Deone Bucannon (Vanden).

    - For the second straight year Long Beach Poly (Calif.) did not have a grad drafted. They have had someone drafted in 12 of the past 21 years.

    - Glades Central (Belle Glade, Fla.) now has 11 total NFL Draft picks. Kelvin Benjamin makes the fourth first-round pick.

    - Weston Richburg and Crockett Gillmore played together as Bushland (Texas). They both played at Colorado State and were both got drafted in 2014.

Some thoughts on my grandson's graduation from Damien HS last night...

    - Damien sends more grads to the military academies than any high school west of the Mississippi River. Five this year.

    - Speaking of Mississippi... Damien is sending three grads to Old Miss. I'm not aware that we ever sent anyone to that school before...

    - My grandson and 4 of his friends will attend Arizona State...

    - Two to Harvard, one to Brown, zero to Yale...

    - A ton of this year's grads to both USC and UCLA...

    - One to Syracuse.

    - A bunch to Purdue. A lot of this year's grads want to go into science and engineering.

    - TWO grads have signed pro contracts to play ice hockey in the Canadian minor leagues. I had heard that Damien's ice hockey teams were good, but I never expected this. Maybe I should go to their games...

    - Out of 240 grads, only ONE declared himself to be "undecided."

    - Many, many boys are going out of state. It's easier to get into out-of-state schools than the ones here, because everyone wants to charge out-of-state tuition, so they turn down locals in favor of the kids who will pay more. My grandson is a good example. He was actually turned down by Cal State Fullerton, but he was accepted by every school in Arizona...

    - Football players:

    1. Tristan Vizcaino, PK to the Washington Huskies who stole him from Wazzoo..

    2. Tanner Carew, allegedly the #1 long snapper in the nation to the Oregon Ducks... Do they ever punt?

    3. Matt Measer, OL to the U.S. Naval Academy.

    4. Three others who will walk-on at Boise State...

Baseball: Grant Hockin, the grandson of Harmon Killebrew, has signed with UCLA, but he may never get there. If he's chosen in the first three rounds of the upcoming draft, he will sign pro right now. He's a pitcher with a mid-90's fastball and a Bugs Bunny curve. He's a good one.

BTW- I got my pin for three generations at Damien HS: Me, Corey, Brendan, and Brendan's father.

Jim, congratulations on your pin. That's pretty cool.

"Bugs Bunny curve" - LOL! Never heard that one before. Like it.

BTW, slightly off topic....IU won the Big 10 baseball championship today vs. Nebraska at TD Ameritrade Field in Omaha.

    re: Indiana

Do they have a good tradition in baseball? When I was coaching, the last Indiana team that I ran into beat me; so I'm hoping they've always been good...
