This curiously put together rankings list show why coaching changes have occurred at some schools while others have coaches who are on the hot seat: http://athlonsports.com/college-football/ranking-college-footballs-rosters-2014 No seat is hotter this year than the head man's seat in Gainesville and these rankings illustrate some of the reasoning behind that. You can also see why the top teams who have performed well with their talent also have coaches who are well respected for the jobs they have done.
I guess, based on that, you just hand that trophy to Alabama. Nobody is even close to them with regards to talent. Of course after reading kp's report on their spring game, maybe we need to go ahead and play out the season.
On another one of their lists they have the top 25 Freshmen (includes RS Freshmen) in football. Texas A&M has 4 of the top 10.
In the top 11 of the rankings are 9 out of the 10 teams that have played for the last five national titles with the other one ( Oregon ) at #14. UF was damned close in 2012 and Ohio State was 24-0 at one point. Coincidence?
OK.... I'm willing to bet that the same top 11 teams provide at least 3 out of the 4 finalists in the playoff this season and possibly all 4.
What that doesn't show is how many of those players are gone from each school for whatever reason. Also while it may be unacceptable for the Gators to have 8 losses with the players we recruited injuries accounted for a lot of that, and I think we have all been in a situation where when things went wrong it just kept going wrong. Hey it happened with my bowling average this year. But there is no doubt Muschamp is sitting on a very warm seat.
