Iowa's Drew Tate is a big disappointment. He's a Texas kid from the Greater Houston Area, had a terrific high school career and a good start at Iowa. I thought this would be his year, but it's not turning out to be that way. Hasn't really played well at all. Good win for the Hoosiers. Given all that the coach has been through he really deserves something good like this to happen to him. Also proves that B10 is overrated this year, only good teams are Ohio State and Michigan, the rest are very average teams...good week/bad week season for most of them. Terry
I agree SEC is overated. However I will add that likely the SEC and the B10 are still the best two conferences. B12 is terrible this year, not even good enough to be overated. BTW I see that the MSU fans are voting with their feet, pans of the stadium show big patches of Red with lots of empty seats. One thing I know for sure, is that even through the Faust, Davie and Willingham years Notre Dame fans come to root for the team...no matter what! Terry
Looks like Va. Tech, Ga. and Iowa were overrated. Rutgers looks like it might be a top 15 team. (did I really type that?) Who are the top teams in the ACC? Clemson and Ga. Tech.?
Gosh, the only conferences that have not been labeled overrated or bad are the Big East, Pac 10, Mountain West, Conference USA, etc. And we know tha Big East and Pac 10 are always overrated or bad. So what does this mean? There are a few very good teams who have the misfortune to play in overrated or bad conferences? Sounds to me like ND is fortunate to be an independent.
Sid I think this year there are very few great teams, Ohio State, Mich are about it. Fla does not look to me like a great team, Texas isn't a great team, USC may be a great team at the end of the year. It seems like there are a lot of good teams, but some of the teams that are usually very good like Iowa, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Wisconsin, don't look as good as expected. There is probably little difference between the #5 team and the #25 team this year. Case in point, UF guys were pointing towards this death march schedule. Well it's not cream puffs, but Auburn and Georgia just aren't anywhere close to what people thought they might be, LSU the same and Alabama is an OK team. No death march. This year a lot of teams that might be good/great on onside of the ball but not on both and a lot of parity. Terry
Terry, although I was kinda yanking your chain, I actually agree with you. Florida's loss to Auburn makes your point about the SEC.
Who are these guys? Back to Back wins and Minnesota of all teams is the doormat? Can you really say the B10 is overrated...they did post the best out of conference record...or does that mean the rest of the conferences are just that bad? I think every conference has at least one if not 2 heavy hitters and the rest is average. I'm anxious to see Michigan continue its dominance but I believe that Iowa will give them everything they want and more, just to prove to themselves and everyone else that they are a top 25 team. Well I would agree that the with UM and OSU that the B10 at the top is the best conference. I just think that after that there is a big drop off. The SEC doesn't have any teams that could stay on the field with UM or OSU but they have better depth at the top. You'd have to put them at #2 The ACC is way down, the B12 is weak this year. I guess the PAC10 is #3 with USC/CAL/Oregon The Big East only looks good because their top teams haven't played anybody. A lot of parity this year in college football.
8) Indi...friggen...ana! I still can't believe what I saw. I only watched the game, because there weren't any good games on TV. Now I've watched Sports Center twenty times just to confirm that I wasn't dreaming... Everybody may be subpar this year, but at least Miami is upholding its traditions... They had a full-scale, bench-clearning, call-the-police, 5-minute brawl with Florida International: MIAMI (AP) -- South Florida's newest rivalry has already overheated. Miami beat Florida International 35-0 Saturday night in a game marred by a wild brawl in the third quarter that had fists flying, helmets swinging and even crutches being used as weapons. In all, 13 players were ejected -- eight from FIU, five from Miami, and each will likely face one-game suspensions. Officials from both conferences, the Atlantic Coast and Sun Belt, are expected to review the game tape to determine if additional sanctions are necessary. "It was something that neither of us wanted," Miami coach Larry Coker said. Kyle Wright had three touchdown passes for the Hurricanes (4-2), who set a season-high for points against a Division I-A opponent. Lance Leggett had two touchdown catches for Miami. It was the first meeting between the programs, whose campuses are 9 miles apart and have rosters almost entirely filled with players from Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the two largest in South Florida. Tensions were high throughout the night, with several occurrences of heated words being exchanged after plays ended. But those verbal jousts were nothing compared with what happened with 9:00 left in the third. "It was a great game," FIU quarterback Josh Padrick said, "until 9 minutes left in the third quarter." James Bryant caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Wright, then drew a 15-yard flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. After making the catch, he appeared to point at the FIU (0-7) bench, then took a theatrical bow toward the stands. "It's not our fault," said Miami's Kenny Phillips, who had an interception. "Whatever it was, it wasn't us." Moments later, Jon Peattie kicked the extra point and the melee began; replays showed an FIU player crashing into Miami holder Matt Perrelli. Pushing among players quickly turned into punches, both sidelines quickly emptied and several fights broke out. "I have no idea how it happened," FIU coach Don Strock said. The brawl lasted about five minutes, and it took officials several more minutes to sort out the penalties. More than two dozen uniformed police officers came onto the field, trying to end the fights, and at least one incident of fan fighting broke out in the Orange Bowl stands. "Shocked, anger, both, all the emotions," Coker said when asked what he felt watching the melee. "College football doesn't need it, FIU doesn't need it and certainly we don't need it. It's just not the way we wanted this game to unfold. Obviously we're very happy with the win but we didn't want the altercation." Police officers, including some wearing helmets, continued to surround the perimeter of the field for the remainder of the game. Florida International's ejected players were wide receiver Chandler Williams, defensive backs Lionell Singleton, Chris Smith and Marshall McDuffie Jr., fullback John Ellis, linebacker Mannie Wellington, tight end Samuel Smith and defensive end Jarvis Penerton. "Whatever penalty is handed down, especially from us, we're going to make it the most severe," Strock said. "We don't condone that. It's embarrassing." The ejected Miami players were offensive linemen Derrick Morse and Chris Barney, running back Charlie Jones, and cornerbacks Carlos Armour and Bruce Johnson. "This won't be a big negative on the University of Miami," Coker said. "I'll put it that way."
Sid, Great win for the Hoosiers. I was shocked when I saw the updates during the Ohio State MSU game. I do not know which score surprised me the most, Indiana or Vanderbillt? Don
How about Vandy...what a coincidence that the last time they beat Georgia was on their home field...seems there was one other tidbit with that as well, I don't remember what it was though. People here are already looking forward to the next couple of years, thinking that IU may make it back to a bowl game...reminiscent of the Anthony Thompson years...almost beat Tennessee in a bowl then followed up with a spanking on South Carolina...Here's to holding your breath. Matt in INdy
hoosiers <r>As someone who grew up in Indiana but has never been an IU football fan I still felt good for the Hoosiers winning this one. Hopefully they can start to get out of the bottom of the Big Ten in football. It's been a long time coming. <E></E></r>
I don't know what to think about Iowa. I thought this year was going to be a good year, but Drew Tate hasn't done anything, injured or not. I also thought Purdue would give Iowa a good game, but they stunk, then Iowa stinks vs Indiana. It almost seems like it's back to the Big 2 Little 8 days in the big 10. Wisky has a good record but I'm not sure they are as good as their record. Terry
Crazy John took me up to the Wisconsin-Michigan game, and I was impressed with the Badgers...they did seem to get worn down at the end and gave up some crucial plays, but they were playing in the big house, maybe against the best team in the country.
