According to regional hearing at the NLRB. If this holds up to the challenges that will be made to this, it's the beginning of the end for college athletics as we currently know it. Personally I'd rather ND go to another division where the players aren't all looking to be paid like professionals, than play in a NCAA professional league. NLRB Ruling
If this holds up it will quickly spread throughout college football. The game as we know it will cease to exist. Ticket prices will soar. They will be professionals, nothing more.
Terry, George, I agree. If this stands, the things that make college football a better game to me than professional football will be gone.
College sports <t>This will indeed devastate college sports. I'm not saying in any way right now that everything is good but these players surely must not realize what they are asking for. The NBA has ruined college basketball for me and now the Unions are trying to take my college football.</t>
So when do Little League players unionize. After all Little League gets plenty of money from ESPN for televising the LL World Series. And when they start televising the running of the bulls in Pamplona they can unionize the bulls because someone will be making money off their efforts.
8) If a player is demoted to 2nd string, can he file a grievance with the union? If a player takes drugs, steals IPods from dorm rooms, smokes dope and molests female students...how long will the grievance procedure take before the head coach can "fire" him?
Yup, a slippery slope. Of course the other side is that the NCAA is just as greedy as Exxon, and we, the fans, demand wins at any cost. Maybe it is just inevitable.
