Can the Gators keep their focus and defeat Kentucky on Saturday therefore becoming the first SEC team in history to go through the SEC conference season at 18-0? http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20140307/ARTICLES/140309726?tc=cr Ironic that only the king of the SEC itself.... Kentucky.... stands in the way of that accomplishment.
18-0 that's impressive. Even though the SEC isn't a strong basketball conference. Also surprising that in it's long history that Kentucky has never made it through undefeated.
Kentucky had three teams go 16-0..... and probably at least two of those were so dominant they could have won 18 if they played 18. But they didn't.... and you never know for sure if they would have. UF has a chance to ink it in the record books.
We are 17-0 and need the win tomorrow to go 18-0. We already have the #1 seed in the SEC tournament and are very likely to get a #1 seed in the Big Dance.
Well... I didn't jinx 'em. They handled Kentucky fairly easily today....especially when it counted. 18-0 conference record for the first time in SEC history!
It was an interesting game none the less. I would break the game up into there segments. The first half the Gators absolutely dominated and led by 21 at the half. Then the first half of the second half it was all Kentucky and they cut the 21 points to 6 points. But the Gators recover and win by 19. I will say this about Kentucky, they unbelievably talented young players. But I have always said good seniors can beat great freshmen because of the differences in strength and experience. If this Kentucky team was to stay together for 1-3 more years they would be unbeatable. And don't count them out as going deep into the NCAA tournament this year. I do think their youth keeps them from winning it all. But for the time being I am just enjoying this Gator team.
Anytime you go undefeated in your conference, you have achieved a very high level of success! Very few teams accomplish that goal. Congratulations to Florida.
This team could have been undefeated.... lost by 6 at Wisconsin early in the season with major players suspended and then by one at UConn on a last second shot. Those losses could have been a blessing though with the NCAAs coming up. I'll be surprised if UF wins the 3 straight necessary to win the SEC Tourney though. I can see a desperate-to-make the NCAA tournament Tenn or Arkansas knocking them off in Atlanta.
I hope you are right Terry. I found out something today that I didn't know, from 1967 - 1991 the SEC also played an 18 game conference season and no one finished unbeaten, so this is a first all the way around.
