ND <t>Looks like Kelly with be interviewing candidates for the OC position including Jeff Quinn. Maybe Denbrock is not a done deal.</t>
It's hard to imagine that Jeff Quinn would leave a HC job even one at Buffalo to take the OCoord job at ND? I also saw the rumor that Kelly was going to interview Al Borges, that is very bizzare. The whole process for getting new coordinators has been very dragged out. It's been out their for a couple of weeks that the DCoord is going to be Brian Van Gorder the Jets LB coach who also was a DCoord several places in the SEC and coached with Kelly waaaaaaaaaay back. I thought well he won't be announced till the Jets season is over, but it's been over for awhile now. Then they said well ND has to vette him thoroughly...ok after O'Leary I get that...but really a guy who has a long employment history how long could that take. Not to mention that if Kelly is really just now starting to interview for OCoord and when he decides that guy has to be vetted it could be a month before we know. I'm betting it's Denbrock.
Well to nobody's surprise Brian Van Gorder is the new Notre Dame defensive coordinator. I hope it's a great hire and that he can work some magic with the front 7 next year. With the loss of Tuitt and Nix and some injury issues it's going to take some great coaching and roster engineering to have a good front 7. I think we should have an excellent set of DB's next year a good combination of youthful talent and some veterans.
ND <t>Well according to Brian Kelly on the Bill King show this morning, he will go back to calling the plays. Look for Denbrock to be given the OC title and a new QB coach.</t>
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/QdSR3QqnQkI" frameborder="0"></iframe> Just thought I'd throw this video in as the lead into Kelly announcing that he's going to be calling the plays next year. I'm not sure it's offical that Denbrock will be the OCoord or that he will hire a QB coach to complete his staff. But that seems to be the direction that we are heading. Also Kelly said he wants 4 more recruits and he has made his decision on the 5th years. A bunch of offers have gone out to ND/DT types of players, several of which were/are verbals to someplace where the coaching staff has changed.
Rees <t>It's a good video Terry and they get it exactly right. The last four seasons would have been horrendous without him, it's that simple. He's a great young man who did the best he could with his abilities. That's the way I will remember him. I hope he has, and in some way I just know he will, have a very successful life.</t>
Kelly calling the plays is a HUGE mistake. He slows everything down and takes personal affront when his play calls do not work. Get ready for the return of
Shift to Hockey again. I was listening to, if you can believe it, Boomer Esiason talk about Hockey. Evidently he plays in an adult league and is a big fan. He said he would like to see the NHL ditch the shoot out for a sudden death period with 3 on 3 (plus goalie) or 4 on 4 (plus goalie). Said it would be more exciting.
Irish Men lost to Maryland last night. I didn't watch the game though. The surge of hope that I had after the Duke game is pretty much gone. It could be a very tough year for the Irish and Mike Brey.
Here's an interview that Jerry Tillery (OL) a 2015 verbal gave on a website called Reddit. Funny read. Jerry Tillery
Four players returning for a 5th year: Austin Collinsworth, Christian Lombard, Kendall Moore, and Justin Utupo. http://espn.go.com/blog/notre-dame-football/post/_/id/19335/four-to-return-to-nd-for-fifth-year
ND <t>Kelly and company are making a late push to bring in some DTs in the 2014 class. Couple of them look promising(Sawyers/Cage). setting up visits. <br/> <br/> I'm still hoping for the McKenzie kid. Just love to see him on punt/kick off returns and in the slot.</t>
I like Collinsworth, is there any chance we can put 125lbs of mass on him by next kickoff? We need help on defense.
Irish Hockey wins tonight, I watched the 3rd period, we scored 3 goals bam, bam, bam...and it was over 6-3 Irish. Irish Women dismantled Pitt last night, payback for the football team! Next up for the #2 ranked undefeated Irish is a trip to play Tom and Cindy's Vols at Knoxville, which is a tough place for anybody to win. Lady Vols are always loaded with players, have great fan support and are well coached. We'll have to play very well to get out of there with a win.
