There's nothing like being a 17 point underdog where nobody gave them a chance and then playing on national television and proving them all wrong. Maybe George O'Leary has a team this season that is worthy of much more praise. They are by far better than UM, UF and USF was this season in the State of Florida. I wonder how much money was lost on this game...
The good news for those who picked Baylor in the pick'em contest is that everyone else made the same pick........everyone except Wendy. I'm guessing it was her loyalty to Florida teams. It sure paid off. I'm upset in retrospect that I gave the game 34 confidence points, but I see that almost everyone else was in the 30-35 point range. :x
Not really surprised that UCF beat Baylor, I picked Baylor in the contest. But UCF is well coached and they had something to prove, came out and smacked Baylor quickly and got them into catch up mode and they never caught up. I'll always wonder what might have been if O'Leary hadn't lied on his resume' at Notre Dame. He's a good coach.
SI on O'Leary... Unfortunately for him he paid the proper price. How could a place like ND, which prides itself on academics and doing things the right way, ever have a coach who lied on his resume. But he did pay a high price, he lost his dream job, and only one of his former players would hire him at the Vikings. Eventually time heals all and UCF came looking, but it's doubtful that even after doing well at UCF that another big time program will come calling. It didn't for Mike Price either. O'Leary
Missing out on O'Leary is the single most reason ND hasn't resurfaced in the national title circle when by now the Irish should have done so... ( let's face it..... ND didn't really belong with Bama from a competitive standpoint last year any more than UF would have and the Gators were next in line ).... O'Leary would have had the Irish in the winner's circle. Too bad for him and the Irish fans that didn't get the chance to happen.
Watched enough UCF games that it's been clear for a while that they were the 2nd best Florida team. After the first couple drives, it looked like UCF came to play while Baylor came for a fashion show. Glad they held on despite that turnover-ridden period.
Nice pick, Wendy. Can I hire you as my consultant for next year's bowl pick'em contest? Remember, I asked first.
