I will be at the Holiday Bowl in San Diego tonight, along with Mrs. JO'Co and Carson... It's the late game on ESPN, and our seats are on the side around the 5 yard line. The game features Arizona State vs. Texas Tech, so we will be rooting for ASU...
ASU probably will rip Tech a new one tonight, and Oregon will likely do the same to Texas. OU is another B12 team that is going to get a reaming in their bowl game.
Well meh...If you'd told me that Oregon would have only scored one offensive TD tonight on Texas I'd have told you that Texas won...but we didn't. Offense was offensive, too bad we don't have Tommy Rees.
LOL...if you watched you'd have heard the announcers talk about how Mack might have won a 2nd NC if Colt hadn't been injured in the 209 game. Also showed highlights of the 2005 Rose Bowl vs Mich and 2006 Rose Champ game vs USC. Mack was really riding high then. Watched most of the ASU/Texas Tech game. I was surprised how easily Texas Tech beat Arz. State. Their QB was a true freshman, looked very good. Arz State just had no clue on how to defend them. Not to mention that Texas Tech actually brought a defense with them. You'll have to keep an eye on Kliff Kingsbury, while he's not likely to win a B12 Championship at Tech mainl because he won't be able to recruit to Lubbock enough talent to win it all but I'll bet he puts out some really good teams. He'll be somebody who if he does what I think he can do will be talked about for some big jobs. You may say that well he's a Tech grad, but even so that's not a job you stay for and pass up opportunities to go some place where you can recruit and legitimately contend for conference and Nat'l titles. There are rumors that Stoops is interested in the NFL, if he left and I were OU I'd go get him even now.
I was amazed at how inept ASU's offense could be at times. Tech does NOT have a good defense, but a few timely negative plays combined with some huge drops (and a couple of phantom offensive PI calls) make it go the way it did. Thanks ASU for resinking my pick'em ship that just seemed to be regaining some buoyancy!
I rarely agree with Mark May and the travelling side show that is their game day coverage... HOWEVER, I thought he made a very astute point last night during half time. Arizona State was the worst prepared team of any team that has taken the field so far in this year's bowl line up. I've never understood the worship of Todd Graham. I'm not saying he's a bad coach, but I'm saying that I just don't see why this guy is always a hot commodity and places want to hire him. His name always comes up with these coaching searches. If you watched the game, the Arizona State defense was quite easily winning 1st and 2nd down. They'd get Texas Tech into 3rd and long. Channeling his inner Jon Tenuta, he'd blitz everyone and a 5 yard pass would go for 25, or there'd be a wide open TE (who is very good btw) 25 yards down field. Good God, that was tough to watch. Every time I see Arizona State play, they seem like a totally different offense. There are games in which they throw it all over the place. There are other games in which they just pound it out. They just don't seem to have any offensive identity. As you guys mentioned, that Tech defense isn't good at all, but ASU showed absolutely zero idea of how to attack them. I didn't even see half time adjustments. They botched the red zone possession at the end of the first half. It was just typical ASU football. Sometimes, they look all-world and other times, they're garbage.
 I finally got home at 2:00 AM and I just woke up. The Holiday Bowl put on a fabulous show that you couldn't see on TV and I would definitely do it again. Hundreds of Marines; thousands of high school kids from all over the country; fireworks, and the Leap Frogs...U.S. Navy Seals parachute team and more: Wowza! ASU's defense was so inept, that the Tech QB was 19/25, 317 yards and 4 TDs at halftime! It was so pathetic. Corey texted me during the game and sarcastically asked if ASU was going to blitz on 3rd down all night. I had to laugh, because he was seeing the same thing that I did. Whenever ASU blitzed, which was often, it left their cornerbacks 1-on-1 with the Tech WRs who ran right past them without even being touched. The Tech QB wasn't that good, but he didn't have to be. His WRs were running wide open all night long. The surprise for me was the Tech defense and the poor play calling by the ASU staff. The ASU crowd was openly booing the play calls as early as the 3rd quarter and walked out in the 4th quarter... BTW- I've noticed over the years that a lot of you people here really don't like Texas Tech. Now I can see why. Their fans really are obnoxious...aren't they? Many stood the entire game, blocking the view of those sitting behind them. They didn't care. They made obscene gestures at the ASU fans and what is that thing they do with their hands? Was that supposed to be a gun? I was not impressed... The bottom line is a familiar one for a bowl game. It looked to me like one team really wanted to be there, with something to prove. The other team didn't care and their lack of motivation and lack of preparation showed. The referees didn't have a very good night, that's true, but the ASU coaches had an even worse night...
We don't call them the "Dirt Monkeys" for no reason... They once tore down their goalposts and then rammed them into the Aggie seating section causing some injuries along the way... Complete jackassery.
