Forbes Report. Hard to imagine how big a lead Texas has over the rest of college football in revenue. I don't know where it comes from to tell you the truth. B12 Contract is hardly the most lucrative, our stadium is big but so are a lot of others, Longhorn Network??? I guess. But Texas is way ahead of #2 Notre Dame. Texas 109M Revenue Profit 82M Notre Dame 78M Revenue Profit 46M Complete List Full Article
Interesting list. I found a few tidbits. -The Texas program received $30 million in contributions. That's a huge number and accounts for the difference between Texas and second place Notre Dame, which does not accept contributions to the football program. -It appears that one category of expense is the tuition cost for the football scholarships. That could be why Texas' expenses relative to its revenue are so low, with so many Texas kids on the team at a low in-state tuition cost per athlete. It also explains why ND's costs are so high, given that the annual tuition/room & board cost per player is by far the highest of the "most valuable" football programs. -I learned one possible reason why Will Muschamp wasn't fired. It would have cost Florida an $8 million buyout. -It's impressive that several of the the highest grossing football programs give back multiple millions to their schools for academic support. -Nebraska won't receive a full Big 10 share until 2017, at which time the amount of a full share could be around $35 million. Kes, I'm not in the know, but I would guess that the TV network who carried the game provided that "extra" incentive to play the game in Dallas. Like I said, just a guess.
Sid - that makes sense. I forgot that game wasn't played in Tuscaloosa. As it was written, it sounded like Alabama had to be paid 4.7M before they would play Michigan.
Nah, I think Sid is on point. It's the network or that's Jerry World money putting that game together. For as much as it seems out of pocket, he made that back in spades in the bigger picture. I'm betting it's probably Jerry. How much does he pay for Romo?
Actually, I think Corey makes the better point re: Alabama-Michigan. With the money that Jerry likely made hosting the game, the payouts to the participating teams would have been a small portion of the total.
Jones has certainly established his stadium as a premium destination for college football. Next year he will host UCLA/Texas.
That should be fun for fans of the P12! Although, tu did finally break their 3-game losing streak to the Bruins two years ago. Of course, Wazzu almost beat them that year, too.
I attended the ND-ASU game at Jerry World this fall. With a capacity of 100,000 there are thousands of cars parked in the stadium lots. I paid $50 for mine. Then there's the concessions. If each patron consumes $25 worth of food and drink (not hard to do) He got 3 mil. not counting the gate.
