It is being reported all around the college football world that.....(wait for it....wait for it) Never mind, THERE IS NO STORY!!!!!!
The story is that Bill Battle is still valiantly holding onto his struggle to keep Nick Saban in Alabama. He is having more success in that endeavor than he had as a coach at Tennessee.
Which fat lady? Saban has signed his 7M-7.5M extension. With the second-coming not likely to come to tu, they may not even get rid of Mack now.
http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/12/who_said_that_7_folks_who_were.html You know the people associated with Texas were so insistent and so sure, I think it got people here worried, but like I said before, Saban and his wife, separately said they were not leaving and I think most people (well maybe only 15%) around here didn't believe they would both just lie unsolicited. After that the local media left them alone about it. We have seen reports of Saban on the recruiting trail and none of the recruits indicated anything other than Saban was recruiting them hard for Alabama. So here is one case for the cynics, when the coach was asked, he answered, and he stood by that answer. I know most will not remember this as a positive thing but it should be remembered. Anyway, apparently this was all a product of University of Texas supporters. 8)
All those fellas trying to be the one to break the news for texas look pretty damned stupid right about now. Add in that "sources" say Mack has successfully circled his wagons and will remain the coach and you've got a pretty funny story.
Supposedly Saban has no buyout. Boy Terry you really were convinced this was going to happen weren't you?
There is now a feeling that maybe this whole Saban thing was a smokescreen for a big name ..cough Jim Harbaugh...NFL coach coming to Texas after the bowl games!! yeah that's the deal. On another level, Mack Brown if he returns next year will be one of the most hated coaches in history by the fanbase...now maybe that is an exaggeration but the fanbase does not want him back next year. Of course winning always cures stuff like that but Mack better get off to an incredible fast start next year....and he's facing a very strong UCLA squad at Arlington next year in Sept...oh yeah and if Oregon shows up at the Alamo Bowl and is ready to play and hangs a big number on Texas...oh my.
