Wow, Evans can be called for holding or pass interference on every route, and he really doesnt like it when the defenders play him the same way. It seems to be really blatant today.
Haven't watched it at all, but A&M defense is awful and I don't think even allowing them to hold would help. Johnny Football needs a big second half if he's going to stay a Heisman candidate. If Oregon goes on and loses Mariota won't have a prayer either. AJ McCarron stock is rising.
AJ's stock is rising? Or is everyone else sinking? He may end up being the default choice, but he is not the most outstanding player in college football. And A&M is definitely in trouble.
Kesley, You know what, give the f'ing trophy to Mariotta. I think McCarron is looking for the crystal football. 8)
I think Mariota has played himself out of the trophy. He would have had a chance to play back into the discussion, but today's game has absolutely removed from eligibility. He hasn't played well at all.
I think McCarron is a good QB. He's much better than what I saw from him last year. He is the perfect QB for what Saban wants. However, my feeling is that there are actually at least ten better QBs in the country this year. AJ has a chance at unprecedented success, I just don't think he would be as successful without the talent he has around him. If you swap him out with QBs from quite a few other teams, I don't see him making those other teams better, and in fact those teams I think would likely drop in production. He is perfect for Alabama's crew. But that doesn't make him the most outstanding.
So I will change my statement above, give the f'ing trophy to whoever you want to give it to. McCarron is looking for the Crystal Football.
Sorry I don't buy that argument that if he were on another team he wouldn't be as good. It's penalizing him for being on a good team or penalizing a QB on a Spread team for being on a passing team as to why he has such good stats.
Terry, if that were true, then how do you explain his game against an average MSU? Why is AJ given a pass because Alabama keeps winning? It sounds like the same argument you used to prop up Manti last year, and this award is not supposed to be about who is or is not a nice guy, and who has or has not persevered. AJ may be the last man standing in the "race" to the Heisman from those players that were allowed to be in the race, but from the football I've seen this year, quite a few players have distinguished themselves more by having to perform for their team since they don't have the all-stars surrounding them to cover for a bad game.
Terry, I get tired of arguing. If you look at McCarron's individual stats, they are competitive by themselves. In the big games, he comes up big. How about Mariotta? Manziel looks like crap against LSU, Winston may be the only guy that is as consistant as McCarron but really, I think that McCarron is enough like Saban that what he is really concerned with winning the next game...not an individual award. But whatever, if we beat Auburn I think all McCarron will be worried about is beating Missouri.
It's not the same argument, heck if having a bad game is barometer give me Johnny Football's stats vs LSU and Fla last year? 0 for the 2nd half if I remember correctly. Manti? I was making what argument last year that was invalid? That he was a great player having a great year, leading his team to an undefeated season? Other people seemed to agree with me as he won more defensive awards last year than any other player in history (I think). If Baylor wins tonight and Bryce Petty has a great game, what will be your argument against him? That he wouldn't be that good if he wasn't in the Baylor offense?
Hey Kesley, you going to give Manziel a pass because of this game against LSU. Hey A&M would probably have beaten Alabama if Manziel didn't throw 2 ints. By the way McCarron had 300+ yards in that game and no ints. Like I said give it to whoever, McCarron is one of the few QB's who is still in the running for the NC. You decide what that is worth.
Until this game, Manziel's margin was razor thin. I think he lost his chance tonight, too. I think it's unfortunate that we're only able to talk about the five or six players, all QBs, that were annointed at the beginning of the year. There are quite a few players having an amazing year, but none of them have the machine behind them that AJ has. Mariota has played himself out, and I have no problem with that. Manziel has played himself out, and I have no problem with that. AJ had an equally bad game against MSU, but he's still at the top of the list. Go figure. I have no dog in this fight, but maybe I should be touting Halliday. Hell, he only has 20 ints on the year.
Kesley, I'll say it again. Give it to whoever you want to, I think McCarron is really concerned with winning the NC. Who of your candidates even has that as a possibility? Have a nice day!
Unlike a lot of others, I haven't made my mind up of who I think should win it. I have my list, most of which don't get the air time that the anointed ones do, for whatever reason. The Heisman isn't SUPPOSED to be "the leader of the best team" or "the best player on an undefeated team" or "the face of the team that has a chance to win the national championship". And I agree, AJ SHOULD only be concerned with winning a third NC, and I doubt he has the Heisman as a goal. I don't understand why so many people think AJ should be off-limits in this discussion. AJ had a pretty crummy game against MSU. When the others had pretty crummy games, they were tossed out. You have a nice day as well, Kyle.
