Might as well start this now. I don't recall feeling like the Gators have zero chance to win this rival game but I do this season. No chance..... nada..... stay home. I really have so little faith in the UF coaching staff anyway and then I read articles that sum it up like this one: "Because we are not invited to watch practice at the University of Florida, we have to trust what the coaches are seeing. So I am assuming Skyler Mornhinweg can’t throw the ball down the field. I also have to assume Frankie Velez must miss everything in practice and Austin Hardin must be splitting the uprights from 60 yards on a regular basis. Velez has missed one kick in a game. Hardin has missed seven. It makes no sense. And while I got it at the time when Kyle Christy was benched, it’s not like Johnny Townsend has been that much better. He is averaging two yards more a kick but Christy had twice as many fair catches and one fewer touchback. Maybe I’m nitpicking when this football team is a giant open sore and I understand why coaches put so much value on practices. Some guys shine when the lights are brightest and some guys wilt. That’s all I’m saying. Kelvin Taylor is clearly one of those guys who likes the big stage. But when the other team knows you are going to run, you’re not going anywhere. Taylor had eight carries for 10 yards in the second half while Mack Brown had seven carries for seven yards." He also adds that Matt Patchan.... a former UF player and top notch recruit on the OL is tearing it up at BC... ACC lineman of the week last week. I wish we would get rid of Muschamp now. I've seen enough already....
I say if you stay within three TDs in this one it is a moral victory. Besides the natural rivalry, it is in FSU's best interest to bury you.
A moral victory for Florida vs. FSU will not help Ohio State. I read an article on CNNSI in which Meyer is getting restless. He wants to completely bash the BCS but knows that personally he can't do that given his BCS success at UF. It's a catch 22 for him. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9996581/urban-meyer-ohio-state-buckeyes-expresses-frustration-bcs I do agree 100% with him in that every season #5 is going to be saying "why not us?"
Of the Top Four, OSU and FSU have the weakest schedules. I think they are piotentially interchangeable. I think Meyer is upset because he sees the potential of back to back undefeated seasons and no championship opportunity to show for it. I don't think he had a road game for the first 5-6 weeks and I think he has 8 home games. Schedules like that don't come around often.
You could have a 16 team playoff and someone would feel "left out"...but at least with a 4 team one the chances of an undefeated season going for naught is less likely.
I've always liked the idea of an 8 team playoff that way the Conf Champions get in and you have room for 3 wild cards. But it's unlikely as contracts have been committed and to undo them would be major. So 4 team it is and as Stu says at least it helps in those years where there are multiple undefeated.
I'll bet there has never been 5 major conference undefeateds. Therefore the elite unbeatens should always get in and that is a good thing. As I have said..... it takes some steely resolve and calm demeanor to be a Buckeye fan this season if the team goes 25-0 and still doesn't get the invite.
I'll worry about FSU after we get back from our cruise. We are going to be there and probably get our butts kicked. But stranger things have happened. But we'll be lucky to stay within 3 td's is probably true.
