Yeah, but for what ever the reason they always try to make the play rather than just knock it down. We had a game this year, that we won, but on a desperation 4th down the kid picks off a long pass. If he'd just knocked it down it would have been our ball 40 yds up field.
Every time that happens I cringe. That's a combination of bad coaching and bad judgement on the part of the player. It's a clear sign that the player is not thinking or is thinking only of himself and his stats instead of what's best for the team. Ugh.
Auburn was up big and blew the lead and then got very lucky. Should be very interesting in a couple of weeks 8)
T - that was a ND game if I remember right. That is one of my pet peeves. Why coaches don't make that a point of emphasis, that you DON'T attempt an int on fourth down, I'll never know.
Yeah it was late in the 4th qtr vs Arizona State. It didn't impact the outcome of the game, we still won but probably would have changed the final score to a more impressive Irish victory. Houston Texans lost a game a few years ago to either Jacksonville or Washington when a DB went for a 4th down last play of the game pick in the endzone rather that batting it down, tipped it instead and the WR got the tip TD, game over Texans lose.
