    Pretty interesting stuff.....

    http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4819309

The SEC not surprisingly has won more BCS bowl games than any other conference and the SEC along with the PAC 12 have winning BCS bowl records while the ACC, Big 12 and Big 10 have losing BCS bowl records and ND is 0-4 while the top 4 winningest individual schools are USC at 6-1, Ohio State at 6-3, Florida at 5-2 and LSU at 4-1.

All time bowl records by conference:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/55785/bowl-records-by-conference

The SEC of course is in first place all time- all bowls ( thru 2010.... and the last two years has excelled W-L wise and probably increased it's lead ).

REC this was more meant as a refute of a statement made on another post about how the bowls, etc. don't bear out how good the SEC has been in out of conference games other than the last 7 title games.

These numbers reflect pretty significant SEC success not only in BCS bowls but in all bowls.

The conference with the highest BCS winning percentage is the Mountain West according to the source you just provided. Do you even read this stuff? Thanks for playing.

See my previous documented thoughts on the subject in the other topic. Your time is slipping away. The further away we get from anything resembling the BCS, the more normality will be restored to college football.

Also, let's not forget that being selected to a BCS bowl game is a bit of a joke. The winner of the Big East went every year, meanwhile the winner of the much tougher Mountain West conference was on the outside looking in. This piece of **** system totally destroyed the game of college football in the name of TV revenue.

Winning percentage yes Corey but in a very limited amount of appearances.

OK..... you are on record then as saying if the Mountain West played in as many BCS Bowls as the PAC 12 or SEC they would have the most wins of the three..... really man?

Their all-time bowl winning percentage is in 5th place at .492.

Do you even read this stuff?

    additionally interesting using your source..

The SEC is an incredible 9-1 in the BCS Championship game with their only loss coming to another SEC team.

However, that chart lists the SEC overall BCS bowl record at 17-8.

That means the SEC is a rather pedestrian 8-7 in all other BCS bowl action.

    Numbers are fun.

    Plant that flag, Dave.

I read it. It's a 2011 article. you should really try the college football data warehouse if you want to cite sources or talk about the real history of the game.

Considering that ND is 0-4 in BCS Bowl games I would say 8-7 seems pretty good.

So the point you're trying to make is that ND is shitty or that the BCS is truly the supreme conference in the land?

Or is 'ND sucks' your counter tactic to irrefutable evidence being presented that you guys indeed are guilty of the 'planted flag' syndrome?

There's nothing newsworthy here other than the fact that you continue to provide documentation for my thesis on your conference.

How do you turn that statement around Corey? That stat above coupled with your own posting of the 9-1 BCS Title game record for the SEC and the fact that the conference is the winingest conference in all time bowl games of any kind and I can't see your logic here....... but I am sure you will give it some kind of effort though.

So Wendy...... you side with Corey on this?

He likes to denigrate and downplay the SEC.... I disagree with his opinion.... it's that simple.

You may want to stand by and read that kind of BS from Corey and accept it...... I don't.

Corey may feel that way about the SEC and he's always on his soapbox about it.... but the sports media doesn't agree with him and in this case the media has it right.

how am I denigrating the SEC, by merely stating that they are mortal? By stating that these things are cyclical? By stating that they are top heavy like so many other conferences? Hell, not only have I stated it, I proved it for more than a decade now.

You take that as an insult. You can't just be a great conference that has ups and downs like everyone else. You must be the supreme conference in the land. YOU ARE THAT JACKASS SOUTHERNER WHO SAYS THINGS LIKE 'Hell, Vandy would be a BCS team in 4 other conferences.' Even if you don't say those words, folks like you are the reason myths like that get perpetrated and seep their way into mainstream media coverage. It eventually gets accepted as a societal norm, and that's just BS.

I'm not turning anything around. I said you guys (and Herbie said this as well) operate on the planted flag theory. Somehow one win negates everything else. The fact that you are even contesting this issue further goes to endorse my position. I'm not turning anything around. It's a fact you have dominated the BCS championship game. It's a fact that you have been slightly better than .500 in the rest of them.
That's not slander. That's fact. If the SEC is what you allege it to be, their record in other BCS bowl games would be more reflective of that dominance.

Do note, in your response to Wendy, you didn't address one single fact that I presented. Instead, you attacked the messenger and began casting accusations that are unfounded.

That's not debating the issue. That's Ad Hominem, and that sir, is a fallacy.

Corey.... I guess you can take 9-1 and render it useless data?

Even so.... 8-7 in BCS Bowls isn't all that terrible.....and I pointed out the difficulty ND has had winning even one BCS game.

That plus being the all time winner in all bowls suggests the SEC isn't a one team show every year.

The SEC is 9-1 in the BSCG, an unprecedented run in which the ONLY SEC team to lose in the CG was to another SEC team. Congrats. As Corey has pointed out, in all other BCS games, the SEC AS A WHOLE, has gone 8-7.

The P12, BE, B10, B12, and ACC combined have gone 6-14 in the BSCG. In non-championship BS games:

    SEC: 8-7, 0.533
    P12: 12-5, 0.706
    BE: 7-5, 0.583
    B10: 11-12, 0.478
    B12: 7-6, 0.538
    ACC: 2-11, 0.154
    MWC: 3-1, 0.750
    WAC: 2-1, 0.667

    Two interesting observations from this.

One, Corey's point that those that support the myth that the SEC is, top to bottom, the best conference in the land, run into problems when looking at anything except the CG. THREE of the other major conferences have a better record in non-CG games, one MUCH better. Two conferences often considered also-rans also have a better non-CG record than SEC teams.

Two, only one conference appears to, much more often than not, be out-classed in BCS games. And it's not the much-maligned, no-longer existent, Big East.

The point we are trying to make is that every year we have to listen to the continued crap that top-to-bottom, the SEC is best in the land, and any school from any other conference would end up with at least three losses in the SEC. When in fact, using YOUR OWN NUMBERS, we can see that although the top of the SEC, usually one team, can be argued is the best in the country, THE REST OF THE SEC IS AT BEST ON PAR WITH, AND IN SOME CASES WORSE THAN, SEVERAL OTHER CONFERENCES.

Really? 2-1 is better than 8-7?

Additionally..... while the SEC's best were going 9-1.... and in one year two of the SEC's best.... the rest of the SEC's participants in BCS Bowls were the 2nd place teams.

Most of the stats from all of the other BCS games would include those conference's best...#1.... team in many cases.... wouldn't they? With the exception for the round robin loser to the SEC.

How many conferences always had their 2nd place team in the BCS as did the SEC?

I'll give the PAC 12 it's due... I would vote them as the 2nd best conference of the BCS era.

But let's look at relevant data here boys.

From the data previously posted, we see that your assertion that the (and I paraphrase) "second best team in the SEC was going up against the best team from the other conference MOST of the time" is patently false.

Indeed, the SEC went up against Big East team five times, going 2-3. However, twice it was the SEC #1 going against the BE #1. In the three games where it was the SEC #2 against the BE #1, the SEC went 2-1. Congrats! This, against a conference that was almost always considered the sixth-worst conference in the league. And you're saying, #2 in the top-to-bottom best conference should be expected to have trouble against the #1 in the sixth-worst conference??

As can be expected, the SEC had their way in the three meetings against the ACC. However, only once was it the #2 SEC team going up against the #1 ACC team. The other two times were #1 vs. #1.

The SEC has played one game each against the WAC, MWC, and an independent, going 2-1 in those games. Again, congrats going 1-1 against the WAC and MWC for which most SEC fans have nothing but contempt for the weakness of those conferences. Again, you're saying the #2 in the top-to-bottom best conference should be expected to have trouble against the #1 in the seventh and eight-worst conferences?

Finally, the remaining four non-CG BS games the SEC has played in have been against the B10 (three) and B12 (one), going 1-3 in those games. The SEC #2 lost to the B12 #1. The SEC #1 lost to the B10 #2. The SEC #1 beat the B10 #1. The SEC #2 lost to the B10 #2.

Overall, the SEC "played up" (2v1) in competition seven times, going 4-3. They played "equivalent" (1v1, 2v2) competition six times, going 3-3. They "played down" (1v2) in competition once, going 1-0. (The last game was a win against an independent by the conference #2.)

By way of comparison, the PAC "played up" three times, going 2-1. They played "equivalent" competition eleven times, going 7-4. They "played down" twice, going 2-0. (The last game was a win against an independent by the conference #2.) However, with the exception of ONE game each against an ACC champion and an independent, ALL of the remaining games came against the B10 and B12, who were generally regarded in this time as the number 2, 3, or 4 conference! Who, again, is playing the tougher competition?

Try again, Dave. Nothing here shows that the SEC has been the best in anything except the NCG. And it has NOTHING to do with "playing up" in competition. And it is laughable that you would make the argument, at the same time as arguing the top-to-bottom superiority of your conference! When going up against "peers" in the B10 and B12, the SEC is 1-3. When going up against the lower-tier conferences is where the SEC makes hay, and where the myth was built. The PAC has played tougher non-CG competition, with greater success.

    I don't get it WSU....

Your hard work shows the SEC #2 going 7 times up against another conference's #1.... once against a #2 and once against an independent.

Was ND that independent? And do you not recognize that the Big East#1 in some years was Miami at their peak form? Which was NOT Big East like in the least. I dunno.... ask Ralph if the Canes sucked in 2000/2001 etc.

"SEC #1 lost to BE #1, with BE long considered the weakest of the 6 BS conferences"
