Also after their tasteless halftime show at ND games the Stanford band is no longer welcome at ND games. I know some people thing their iconoclastic halftime shows are cool, if the band is so cool and likes to make fun of institutions they should do a halftime show on Mohamed have a band member dress up like him and insult the whole Muslim religion. That would show me that they are equal opportunity offenders not just a bunch of liberal biggots!!
Sid, I'm reading Tim O'Niels book on his walk-on career at ND, has your son read it? Tim entered ND after Bryan left ND and played under Davie. It's pretty interesting reading what the walkons have to go through. It's not Pulitzer material and there really isn't any inside material, like what Davie was like from the players perspective. But those guys really work hard, as you know. Terry
ND/STANFORD <r>Well let's see now, B. Quinn 4 TD passes and 395yds. D. Walker 140yds, 2TDs. Irish 500+ total yds. Munir Prince takes over for Walker at the beginning of 4th QTR etc, etc,.........I'm pretty sure the Irish will take this one. Stanford should be seeing a lot of this:<br/> <br/> <IMG src="http://www.cougarblue2.com/albums/NotreDame2/dsc_0299.jpg"><s></e></IMG></r>
I hope this week's weather is better than last week's. I'm bringing a poncho if there is so much as one cloud in the sky.
Does anyone know if the Stanford band with all it's "fabled traditions" got off suspension this year? http://daily.stanford.edu/article/2006/8/31/bandInLimbo
Greetings from SB IF you are watching the game today, the large blue object sitting in the row above the tunnel is Gipper. It's a beautiful day for a game here. Mike
This should be as competitive as Custer vs. the Indians. Worst defense we'll see all season, Irish by 30+.
8) That was a pretty solid victory and Charlie accomplished a lot. I like his style. It was a very, methodical execution that allowed him to rest several banged-up regulars and get the younger kids some playing time. Two of the three Irish captains (Zbikowski and Thomas) didn't even play in the game, although they were in uniform. This allowed Ray Herring to play a full game at safety, with Munir Prince and even James Aldridge getting some carries on offense. BTW- that Aldridge is bigger, faster and better than anyone else we have! I was very impressed with his few tries and I can't wait for him to be a regular contributor. Aldrige and Prince will be a great one-two punch when Darius is gone... The Irish emptied the bench at the end and got almost the whole freshman class on the field on offense. Guys like Carufel were on the line with both frosh TEs and George West and Robbie Parris at WR. All of this will pay off next year when the team will be young everywhere. I'm hoping that the team can do this several more times in the next few weeks and I'm confident that CW will try to arrange things that way... re: UCLA QB Ben Olsen went down with a knee injury against Arizona today and Cowan is at QB. The Bruins are young, but talented and I'll have more to say about them later... All in all, a good win today. No surprises from the underdog, except one trick play. I'm happy with that... .................JO'Co
ND/Stanford <r>JO'Co,<br/> <br/> I agree with you on Aldridge. For the brief time we saw him on the field he does appear to have the speed and moves to be the #2 back and eventually take D. Walker's spot. What remains to be seen is if he has the hands to catch the passes like Darius. If he does then we will end up with an even better back the Darius, probably capable of breaking the long runs down the field when he hits daylight which is all that Darius is missing. Can't wait for that. <E></E></r>
JO'Co... <t>I agree on the young guys. Pretty exciting knowing they are all a part of the program and getting a few reps. Speaking of young ones hope some of you Irish fans have been able to see the AMP clips on the recruits that were at the game this weekend. WOW !! All top rated guys we are in a war with other top programs to get.<br/> <br/> How bad is Olson's injury? I just saw the score but no details. That could be huge against our leaky defense in two weeks.<br/> <br/> I have now bought into the Ainge improvement deal with Coach Cutcliff at Tenn. The guy sees the entire field not and is getting it done. That was something to see last night.</t>
I watched the game late last night on Tivo since I was down in RockPort Texas yesterday fishing and when got in the group watched the Texas/OU game!! I was sort of hoping for a 56-7 or something like that blowout, but Charlie clearly played it close to the vest, opting for grind it out long TD drives. He was masterfull in mixing the run and pass yesterday. The result was there weren't really that many possessions. I think he did this for a couple of reasons, he's getting them ready for the USC game, we will need to again this year concentrate on long drives keeping our defense off the field as well as the USC offense. Plus Charlie comes from a Pro background where you don't toss up those big numbers on opponents as there are no rankings that determine your fate. He'll have to learn to hold his nose and run up the score a little bit when he has the chance, style points do count in college football. I liked what I saw of James Aldridge, but am not ready to pronoucne anything other than he got garbage time yards against a worn out/down and beaten Stanford defense. But hopefully over the next few weeks we'll get to see him in some different situations. I liked what I saw of Munir Prince speed wise, but he got his ass knocked backwards a few times and will benefit a lot from another year of strength and conditioning in the offseason. Our defense didn't really miss TommyZ or Travis Thomas today, which probably says a lot more about Stanford than it does about those guys. Terry
