This is for Sid. I want him to absorb this one slowly and allow it to marinate in his head for awhile. No need to get excited. This was expected... On the way home from work today, I listened to the radio show of the evil Petros Papadakis....... He's the former USC captain whose family owned the restaurant down the street from the Coliseum that USC always used for recruiting visits. Now he has a daily radio show and broadcasts games for the 12Pac Network... Petros claims that USC should win this game, because Tommy Rees can't throw. He claims that the Trojans will play man-to-man, single coverage the entire game and stack the line to stop the run. He also says that the Trojans passing game should be wide open with the return of their best WRs for this game; although he admits that Tuitt worries him "a little." There was a lot more, but I changed the channel to one of those sh!t-kicking stations that are on out here in the desert.......
My new life motto: To each his own opinion (even a USC fool). Actually, I'm concerned about the Southern Cal passing game that he describes. They have world class receivers, and we don't have world class DBs.
I used to really hate John McKay...but over the years I've come to realize he was just a great coach, with great talent doing his job. We had some great games with him, Ara sadly came out on the short end too much for this young fan. John McKay
George, Glad you enjoyed. I am forever compelled to throw empties at Petros wherever I see him. I laughed heartily at this bit in the article about McKay. He's honestly the only thing about USC that I don't hate..
LOL! That's hilarious! Having been introduced to the rivalry during its golden years when McKay was the Southern Cal coach, I'm inclined to believe that story.....although I'm sure it's not true........or is it?
ND <r>I don't normall get excited about 3* recruits and especially if you tell me he is a receiver and is 5'*8" 170lbs but....take a look at ND's latest verabl commit and I think you'll see why I'm excited about this one:<br/> <br/> <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//<URL url="http://www.youtube.com/embed/aN_rp7NEhyE?feature=player_embedded"><LINK_TEXT text="www.youtube.com/embed/aN_rp7NEhyE?featu ... r_embedded">www.youtube.com/embed/aN_rp7NEhyE?feature=player_embedded</LINK_TEXT></URL>" frameborder="0"></iframe><br/> <br/> Imagine this kid on kickoffs, punt returns and in the slot. Oh Yeah. Nice.</r>
USC seemingly running at will on the Irish, but somehow we get out of the 1st half leading 14-10. Can't believe we didn't score on that first drive!
ND <t>Holy Crap!! I need a drink and a sedative both after that!!!<br/> <br/> We beat those SOB's without a QB in the second half. What a defense!!!</t>
Damn that win was like digging out a deeply impacted 3rd Molar. I hope Tommy is a fast healer, because I don't think when can win with Hendrix at QB. I mean we didn't make a 1st down with Hendrix in the game. Now the defense was something else in the 2nd half it reminded me of last years defense. Kelly 3-1 vs USC.
How about Jaylon Smith, that kid is going to have a great 2nd half. I think a few lights have gone off and we're going to see him shine. Tuitt is now motoring like Tuitt and that is helping everybody.
Tommy was having a very good game tonight before he got laid out by that blitz. Kelly supposedly said Tommy has a neck strain, which I think would be better news than a concussion. Maybe he'll be available for next week.
ND <t>Guess those cookies Ed was handing out the USC players just weren't enough to get the job done tonight.</t>
We had 1st downs in the game with Hendrix at QB. The bottom line is, I don't trust Kelly. The only QB he's ever trusted with the keys to the offense is Rees. Our offense last year didn't open up until we took the throttle off the offense. With Hendrix in the game, we couldn't have played it closer to the vest. Hendrix still made bad throws, but so did Rees. As Kes could attest to while we were texting during the game, Rees throws A LOT of hospital balls and misses wide open WRs. I see all these programs developing talent. We treat the ND offense like it's the quest for the Holy Grail. Let the players play. Put them in positions to maximize their abilities and stop choking the god damned thing. As for the game, we've all been doing this long enough to see more deserving teams lose. Sh*t happens in this series and any time you can just get out with the win and move on, it's a great day. You can't fault Kelly for Golson getting booted this semester. You can't blame him for Keil bailing. You can wonder why for a guy who claims the entire team operates on a 'next man in' theory, there is one position in which that is simply not true. Either that's your mantra, or it's ********. We're obviously doing everything that we can to protect the redshirt year of our freshman. That's understandable. At the same time, the practical reality of the situation doesn't really afford you that luxury. If we manage to pull it off, it will be a bit of a minor miracle. Contrary to popular ND mythology, we do not run this highly complicated offense. What Kelly is telling us just does not compute. These aren't dumb kids he's getting, I don't want to hear that they can't grasp the offense. Can Newton is dumber than a bag of hammers, but he managed to grasp a far more complex offensive system in just one half of a year. Oregon seems to just reload at QB, and that offense is much more complicated. Regardless, we won and that's that. I've got some real serious questions about our leadership at the executive level. I think he's getting better. I really don't think he's the offensive genius that he believes himself to be.
