http://www.secdigitalnetwork.com/Portals/3/SEC%20Website/football/confldrs.htm Alabama so far is still the king of the conference and it is interesting that the "king" is behind even Florida in total offense per game. However.... even though the Gators rank first in every defensive category the Tide is right behind the Gators defensively. What I gather from that is that defense still wins championships in the SEC..... and I am feeling a little better about UF because defensively they have obviously been very strong. I don't think Georgia has the defense to win the SEC this year..... but we will see.
WSU, even after getting absolutely destroyed by Stanford, would be positioned thusly: Scoring Defense: #4 in the SEC, #6 P12, #38 FBS Rushing Defense: #12 in the SEC, #9 P12, #73 FBS Pass Defense: #2 in the SEC, #2 P12, #11 FBS Total Defense: #3 in the SEC, #4 P12, #25 FBS Pass Efficiency Defense: #2 in the SEC, #6 in P12, #33 FBS Opponent 1st downs: #9 in the SEC, #8 P12, #50 FBS Opponent 3rd down conversion: #3 in the SEC, #5 P12, #24 FBS Red Zone Defense: #1 in the SEC, #2 in P12, #12 FBS There are more PAC 12 defenses better than WSU than SEC defenses.
Well said, Tom. Most folks who are called out that way would re-assess their approach to communication. Bet that doesn't happen here.
Funny Kesley how this year the SEC offenses ( except for a couple like Florida. ).... have revved up to play like PAC 12 offenses..... which have traditionally always been high scoring machines. I think the the reason teams like Stanford and Oregon have become so good is that they have found some defense to go with that offense although it could be argued that over the past few years Stanford has had a very good defense. So your stats as they would fit into the SEC are pretty legit I would say.
Sid, the problem is two fold. 1) He is a braggart with regards to Florida. This poses problems for Bill when People shoot back at Florida in retaliation 2) He is a braggart with regards to the SEC. That poses problems for all the other SEC fans here INCLUDING MYSELF AND BILL which is 2/3 of the voting administrators here. That is pure stupidity. :?
Tom..... I merely post SEC stats.... didn't brag about anyone or the conference although I pointed out that a team I respect greatly..... Alabama..... has stats that are very similar to Florida's. Obviously that's about as far as I can offer a response to what you said......except to say I wish you would quit extrapolating B/S from what I type and just read it for what it is.
I understand what you're say, Tom. However, I don't judge Bill guilty by association. He's a gentleman. I respect the SEC, and I respect Florida's program (and Tennessee's and Alabama's). I'm able to separate both from the issues raised by MCG's posts.
You find a few things that the SEC and or Florida does not excel at and post it here and people's attitude toward you including mine might change.
Obviously I'm cracking on MCG, showing that WSU is obviously not a great team, although stats would lead you to believe they would be on the field with most of the SEC. But seriously, I don't think there are more than two defenses in the SEC that are in the top 10 in the country this year, those being Florida and behind them Alabama. I would also put Stanford, Michigan St., Wisconsin, Washington, Oklahoma, Oregon, and until they played ASU, USC as the top defenses in the country. We'll see if the ASU game was the team giving up on Kiffin or if it really is that bad, but I think now that the SEC offenses are starting to catch up with the rest of the country, they're starting to see just how hard it is to stop them.
Oh Sid, I had no thoughts of you or anyone else seeing Bill as guilty by association. However, he does feel attacked and has said so when people take jabs at Florida because of something MCG has done.
I wonder where Bama would rank against UF in defensive stats if they hadn't run into a certain offensive buzzsaw a few weeks ago???
Kesley I appreciate the discussion. I do think the offenses in the SEC ( most of em anyway ) are more prolific than maybe they have been in recent years but still..... I am not sure about the defenses played by those not named Alabama or Florida. In a big showdown in which they gave up points and yards it was still the ability of Bama to play defense that helped them beat the Aggies. They will also play LSU and then on the other side UF will play LSU and Georgia. I am not certain which side of the ball... offense or defense.... wins those games. And that's a good point Scott..... Miami is the best offensive team UF has faced so far..... point wise..... averaging 45 ppg to the Aggie's 49. But I do think playing the Aggie's offense is a whole other story right now with Manziel playing Qb.
I don't think Bama's defense did much to slow down A&M. A&M's defense couldn't stop a toddler that Saturday, which is what lost the game for A&M. When Alabama's defense gives up 42 points, 334 passing yards on 20 of 29 passing, 234 rushing yards, 31 first downs, and 5 of 8 third down conversions, I would not say the Alabama's defense was the reason for that win.
There is only one stat that matters...that's the score when the clock hits all zeros. I'm worried about the future but so far, so good.
