Boy, that Haden guy is a genius!

I wonder what's next for Kiffin? Based on his record, I'm sure someone will snap him right up.

I read this and felt so good for the wonderful Tennessee fans out there... even the bad ones too. You guys deserve this day.

USC and Texas will now be in a spending war for the best of the best. Hadan doesn't make mistakes. We all kinda figured that this was Kiffin's fate when he took the job and the punishment came down.

With a tip of the cap to Wetzel's article, because he's right, USC has the leg up because they've pulled the trigger and are free to openly handle things in an above board manner.. They can even use Texas' behind the back search for Mack's replacement against them.

I really hope USC screws this up though.

Why is he a hero? That guy can go kick rocks.

They fire Kifin and now what... what if they bring in the next great coach? Is he a hero then?

Nah, I wanted Kiffin to retire there.

Yeah while I'm a little surprised at the move by Haden, a 62 point loss to ASU had to be the last straw. Now while it's not like he can contact or talk to coaches currently in their seasons, like Foley did with Urban Meyer, but still it's out there now and he can talk to agents and other 3rd parties and gain some idea of who is truly interested and what the $$ will be. He should be in a position to wrap it up pretty quickly after the end of the regular season.

In most instances the coach if he's still with another college team dumps the current team even if they are in a bowl game and gets right on to building a staff and recruiting. Urban did not leave Utah though before he coached them in a bowl game (and won). If he goes with a Pro coach that coach won't really be able to take the reins till after his team is out of the playoffs...cough cough Jack Del Rio or somebody like that. That is what Charlie did, that is what Bill O'Brien did.

I would expect though that the guy at Washington would be at the top of his list. USC ties, West Coast ties, has reanimated the dead program that Willingham left him not an easy feat.

Didn't know how thin the Trojans were....they played ASU with 56 scholarship players...that's like an NFL franchise, except amongst those 56 players there were no doubt freshmen not ready to play and a few players who were on the team who under usual circumstances wouldn't have even been on the 3 deep.

    :D

The shear savagery of this public execution is a sight to behold. I thought I had seen it all when the Trojans fired Larry Smith on the bus back to Los Angeles when they lost the Freedom Bowl to Fresno State, but this tops that by a mile! Never mind the 62 points that ASU tacked on them. It's reported here that Haden decided to fire Little Kiffin during the THIRD QUARTER as he watched the game on TV! He then drove to LAX and unceremoniously pulled the trigger right there on the tarmac as he got off the plane! Third world dictators have ended their careers with more dignity and fewer insults...

I can't remember a coach who was so universally despised at every level of the game, from coast-to-coast, across all age groups and both genders...

Reports here say that Kiffy was not even allowed to BOARD THE BUS! Haden sent them along without their head coach and dropped a piano on him right there...

Quote from Patrick Capper Haden, "I defended him with all my heart and soul. In many ways, he didn't get a fair deal, so I told him I would grade him on the curve; he didn't pass on the curve either..."

I see that Snoop Doggs son has come out publically and said he's glad Kiffen is gone. He's a highly rated recruit at WR. There are also reports of kids in SoCal who were not going to consider USC due to Kiffens presence are now considering USC again. New coach if he's the right guy will have the USC recruiting machine fired up right away. Mora at UCLA will feel it right away no doubt.

UConn fired it's coach today. They are forked IMHO, when the Big East was still together they had a somewhat rising program. Now they are stuck in a low rent conference and nobody in a BCS conference wants them. It will be tough for them to rebuild that program.

I don't mean to break up the celebration, but Coach O is one of the legendary recruiters (and cheaters) in college football. I would look for an immediate impact by having him running the ship until someone with a soul takes over.
