I think with their schedule that Tenn may have trouble being bowl eligible this season. That game was butt ugly..... although I do think Florida's defense is one of the best in CFB and fun to watch.
Seven Turnovers by halfway though the second quarter. 3 by the Gators and 4 by Tennessee. The second half was better with only 2 turnovers both by Tennessee. One of them was an interception on the last play of the game which was meaningless. I will take any kind of an SEC win.
Did not see this game. That's too bad that Driskell is gone for the year, his career is slowly slipping away from him. He was the #1 QB in his recruiting class and I'm sure he had visions of being a 1st round draft choice but he's not even in the top 10 in that same class. He's likely a undrafted free agent. Next man up, what is this guy capable of, was he highly recruited is he pro-style or dual threat. With so many games left if he moves in and takes charge Driskell may never play very much again for the Gators. I'm not sure why Butch would start a freshman on the road in the swamp other than he feels like the kid is the future and that it's time to give him some work and let him take his lumps now and grow/learn from them so that next year he will be ready. Vols have a lot of young talent and more on the way in recruiting so I assume Jones wants next year to start with an experienced and talented young QB.
I just read an article on ESPN Insider where the author makes the case that losing Driskel is of little consequence to the Gators. That their whole season has always depended on the running game and the defense, that Driskel just isn't good enough and his loss shouldn't hurt unless the new guys just plays awful and turns the ball over a lot.
Probably true Terry. If Driskell doesn't turn the ball over last year vs. Georgia... UF would have taken that formula to the SEC Title/national semi-final game. I believe that the Gators again have the defense to excel with that formula so in a turnover free game.... unlike the mistake prone Miami game.... I think the Gators have an edge. That flat offense cannot however overcome turnovers so since they are bound to happen sooner or later I can see a 9-3 type season being about the best UF will muster this year. .
Well then.. the upside to Driskell being gone for the year is.. you're going to find out if that theory is true.
I may have been too hasty in my post about Jones. There is a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that we fans know nothing about. I don't understand throwing the true freshman into the fire. I don't claim to know more than Butch Jones does though. This decision may have been the best chance for a win and it just didn't work out. This option may just give our youngsters the strength to climb through the rest of the year and excel next year. We'll see. I'm over being pissed. Go Vols. Beat another lesser team before we get to the rest of the SEC Schedule.
Not that we need any more difficulty in our schedule but it will be more fun when that knot starts in my stomach early on in Tenn week and gets worse leading up to gametime. That knot hasn't been there much lately..... we need the rivalry back.
Today we lost our best defensive tackle Dominique Easley to an ACL injury suffered in practice Tuesday. Two years ago he injured the other knee. This no doubt ends his Gator career. He is a heck of a player and I hope he can still have an NFL career. Thanks for being a great Gator Dominique.
Bill I heard that today as well, it's a shame. Easley was the most impressive player on the field when the Gators played the Canes the other day and that goes for both teams. I would think if he can recover he would be a great draft pick.
