Bill I think many (not all) Texas fans question the whole approach that Texas took during the upheaval period when there was a lot of conference jumping or rumors of conference jumping. There was an arrogance by Texas that everybody needed us and we didn't need anybody else so if you don't like the LHN then tough. Baylor, Iowa State, OU, Kansas, Kansas State, Ok State etc...all had no TV market to be able to move to another conference so they had to hope and pray that Texas didn't go to the Pac12 and they let us have our way with them.
As the Aggies get ready for such a huge national and more importantly a conference game with Alabama on Sat. they must be feeling like they are the smartest people on earth to get out from under the Longhorn's shadow and create such a stir on their own.
At this point in time it appears to be the best move that they ever made. If they have another good season, maybe even beat Alabama, but even if they don't win 10 games again and can hang on to Sumlin they have the potential that they will flip the state to their favor. Back in the late 80's early 90's Jackie Sherrill and R. C. Slocum owned the state and they out recruited Texas. When Mack arrived in 1998 that ended, but the opportunity is there now for them to flip it back to their favor.
Based on results, and the product on the field, I'd say the "state" flipped a year or two ago... It truly has been a "hundred year decision" as our president said when we formally accepted the invitation. We are now on an upward trajectory that could not have been predicted 3 years ago. Keeping Sumlin won't be a problem unless he has NFL aspirations. We have plenty in the till to fight off ALL comers at the college level.
This whole conversation reminds me why I respect Terry so much. He's honest, straightforward and doesn't take cheap shots. I have to say this about the realignment, I am and have been very happy with getting Texas A & M into the SEC. Missouri probably doesn't bring as much, but their basketball program is usually pretty good and they have been to a number of bowl games in recent years. But make no mistake the Aggies were the big prize.
Yes, and the rest of us are none of those things.... Jesus... Terry doesn't take cheap shots? You've obviously never seen Terry after/during a B12 win against a P12 team. I don't mind. It's all in fun. Something that the 'Rebel Pride' contingent seems to be lacking.
It's okay George. We'll sit back playing catch with our objectivity, while people continue to accuse us of ridiculous things. Boo hoo. So, your boy Carlo gonna light it up tomorrow?
