Let me see if I can get your attention. Is there anything in sports, outside of WWE, more bogus than this nonsense in Williamsport?
:? Ummmmmm Terry and George Carson is 13 and over 6 ft maybe 6'1 I think he was as tall as Megan(granddaughter) he will be 14 in 2 weeks
The kid from Michiagn has 98 HRs this year, I read. I'm assuming that they both throw in excess of 100 mph when you calculate based on 46'. Carson is a runt compared to these two. Nothing upsets me more than watching the announcers and ML analysts gushing over kids that throw 3-4 different pitches when they spend the othe r11 months of the year espousing the dangers of throwing breaking balls when your body is undeveloped.
 A kid clocked at 70mph (at 46') is equivalent to a 95mph fastball thrown from (60' 6"). The reaction time is the same. If you want to know what that looks like, do this: Stand straight up. Hold your glove with your arm extended straight out from your body, parallel with the floor. Now drop the glove. That's the pitcher throwing the ball. When it hits the floor, that's when you swing. The time in between....a little more than half a second... is the all the reaction time you're going to get...
I enjoy watching the LLWS. I can do without the crowd shots of the crazed parents who know the camera is on them. I also can do without the constant spitting and the occasional crotch grabbing, which are just the latest ways the young players imitate the big leaguers. What I like watching is the essence of the game, the kids. Today's youth sports are worlds different from when we all grew up. TV and the internet have changed how kids see the world and how they develop as young athletes. The boys playing in the LLWS are no different from our grandsons, all of whom are great kids. I'm not awed by the six-footers. I haven't seen one yet who looks like a can't-miss athlete. Remember, regardless of size, for 90% of these boys this is the peak of their athletic careers.
