Thought I'd start a new topic as the Irish Spring topic seems to be getting long in the tooth and we seem to get off on a lot of subjects not related to Notre Dame Football. It's been an long spring anyway for Irish fans and to be honest I'd just like to put a lot of it behind and get on with the summer leading into the fall season. So we know for sure that Golson won't be our starting QB this season so we now begin to speculate on just who will be. I know Rees has the most experience but as I've said before I don't see him as a starting QB and giving us a chance to win more than maybe 8 games. It's just not gonna happen with him. So why doesn't anyone seem to be talking more about Hendrix as the possible starter? He gives us the potential for a lot more than Rees does. He much more athletic, has more foot speed and just gives you a better chance of extending the play than Rees does, especially in the offense that Kelly wants to run. I say we do the same as last season and start Hendrix and bring Rees of the bench when needed. As far as the freshman Zaire goes he has a lot of great potential but except for putting him in on limited situations I can't see him being a started this season.
Tim, I imagine Kelly is looking at experience in tight situations. An inexperienced QB will make mistakes and that can prove to be very damaging in some key situations. Just my thoughts.
No doubt Don. Funny thing is that every hot shot HS QB wants to start as a freshman and if they don't they don't wait around too long before they transfer.
There's only ever a few topics for ND football. 1. The sky is falling. 2. The season is here, we're gonna die. 3. We're 1-0 and #1 in the nation regardless of whatever facts show. 4. We lost, fire the coach. 5. We didn't win big enough, sack the QB. 6. Bowling for bucks.. because we can, suck it directional schools. 7. The sky is falling. On topic, Tim, what do you think the chances are of the freshman seeing solid time in the early season?
Very good analysis, Corey. You didn't ask me, but I'll offer my unsolicited opinion (which my dad always said is never welcomed). I don't think it would be wise to set him up as a possible starter, but it might make sense to give him some PT if and when we ever have an insurmountable lead.
ND <t>I think we will have several of the freshmen get playing time this year. 2 right off the top of my head are Bryant the RB and Jaylon Smith the LB. gonna be hard to keep those two on the sideline.</t>
ND <r>O.k. Irish fans, remember Chris Martin? Here's why we should continue to be happy he did not come to South Bend:<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://www2.kusports.com/news/2013/may/29/current-former-ku-footall-players-among-three-arre/"><LINK_TEXT text="http://www2.kusports.com/news/2013/may/ ... hree-arre/">http://www2.kusports.com/news/2013/may/29/current-former-ku-footall-players-among-three-arre/</LINK_TEXT></URL></r>
Tim, I agree. I think they're going to be in a playing rotation that may increase if they show they can hold their own at this age. That Martin guy is a hot mess. How crazy is it that we live in a day and age in which someone can admit to having their illegal (marijuana in Kansas) possessions stolen to the police? When I was a kid, you'd get arrested for filing that police report. Hell, you'd get arrested in the 90s for filing that. Either way, this is just one of many reasons on why I don't sweat the fluttering commitment guys.
Pre-season AA teams starting to come out. Louis Nix and Stephon Tuitt are both getting a lot of 1st Team AA nods.
We couldn't win with this situation. The kid wasn't coming to ND that much was pretty clear. The family was probably ready to drop all sorts of sob stories that we couldn't refute and that would make us look like a bunch of uncaring aholes. One article suggested that ND was concerned that he would sign with USC and that he won't be offically released from his LOI until after he is enrolled as a student at UCLA. We won't likely play UCLA anytime soon so that's the better outcome for us. There have been persistent rumors that UCLA tampered with Vanderdoes after he signed with ND. Doubt if we'll ever be able to prove it though. Offically he is claiming that family circumstances have changed since he signed his LOI and that he feels he has to be close to his family. There is a chance he could play this fall I guess. Just like when Amir Carlisle transfered to ND for "family" reasons and was declared eligible to play last fall even though he was injured and ended up sitting out the year.
