    White House Threatens Bob Woodward

Mr. Woodward, how does this compare to Watergate? You have a lot to answer for. You and the rest of the enemedia have been at war with the American people for decades. You destroyed the right, the rational and the reasoned — the rights of the individual. Did you think they wouldn’t come for you?

Woodward Says Top White House Official Threatened Him For Criticizing Obama On Sequester Cuts, “You Will Regret Doing This”… -

    Thugs.

    Via RCP:

WOLF BLITZER, CNN: You’re used to this kind of stuff, but share with our viewers what’s going on between you and the White House.

BOB WOODWARD: Well, they’re not happy at all and some people kind of, you know, said, look, ‘we don’t see eye to eye on this.’ They never really said, though, afterwards, they’ve said that this is factually wrong, and they — and it was said to me in an e-mail by a top –

    BLITZER: What was said?

WOODWARD: It was said very clearly, you will regret doing this.

BLITZER: Who sent that e-mail to you?

WOODWARD: Well, I’m not going to say.

BLITZER: Was it a senior person at the White House?

WOODWARD: A very senior person. And just as a matter — I mean, it makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, ‘you’re going to regret doing something that you believe in, and even though we don’t look at it that way, you do look at it that way.’ I think if Barack Obama knew that was part of the communication’s strategy, let’s hope it’s not a strategy, that it’s a tactic that somebody’s employed, and said, ‘Look, we don’t go around trying to say to reporters, if you, in an honest way, present something we don’t like, that, you know, you’re going to regret this.’ It’s Mickey Mouse. After spending the last two weeks doing daily "armageddon" predictions on the unleashing of sequestration, which he created, Obama is now feverishly backtracking on those ominous claims as he realizes this will most likely occur tomorrow and because he knows that he "owns" this stunt .

The threat to Woodward was ill advised and shows a president and administration in full retreat. That's how I see it.

Democrat Pat Caddell: Obama Is The Closest Thing We’ve Seen To Nixon In 40 years In Disingenuousness, Even Congress Has Not Been Told The Names Of Benghazi Survivors
    [IMG]
    Shameful.

    Pat Caddell via Fox News:

It is not without a bit of irony that, in the 40 years since the explosion of the Watergate story, Bob Woodward would again be under attack from the White House for trying to tell the truth. But this time the attack is coming from a Democrat.

While Barack Obama may not share the Nixon pedigree, he and his White House are the closest thing to the Nixon regime of any that we have seen since then — both in the extent of their paranoia and their willingness to suppress the truth and push the boundaries of law.

In my lifetime, in over 40 years in national politics, Mr. Obama is the only president who comes close to rivaling Richard Nixon for fundamental disingenuousness.

However, some things never change, just as Woodward and Bernstein were attacked then by the establishment mainstream media for daring to question a president — or do a story that they wouldn’t touch — they are once again attacking Woodward the way they did when he and Carl Bernstein pursued Watergate.

As the youngest person on Nixon’s enemies list in 1972, I am particularly sensitive to a White House where they have utter disregard for trampling on dissent and on the rights of individuals.

New York Post: Administration Officials Called Female Reporter Who Asked Tough Questions a “C***”, “B****”, “A**hole”

    Home - by Mr.Pinko - March 3, 2013 - 22:16 America/New_York - 10 Comments

In addition to Woodward, correspondents Lanny Davis, Bill Plante, Neil Munro, Ron Fournier, David Brody, Conor Friedersdorf, and others have expressed their concern and disbelief regarding the administration’s fascistic mindset:

… “I had a young reporter asking tough, important questions of an Obama Cabinet secretary,” says one DC veteran. “She was doing her job, and they were trying to bully her. In an e-mail, they called her the vilest names — bitch, c–t, a–hole.” He complained and was told the matter would be investigated: “They were hemming and hawing, saying, ‘We’ll look into it.’ Nothing happened.”

Now that’s a war on women.

Unlike Dick Nixon, the Obama administration wears its ‘Enemies List’ on its sleeve.

Obama’s Imperial Presidency Is “Everything Nixon Wanted”
Where are the civil libertarians to question the Imperial Presidency? Warrantless searches, kill lists, unilateral military action on Obama’s say so-this would have had any prior President impeached. Precious few attempting to hold this President to account.

Interesting article by Jonathan Turley, who is a law professor:

This month, I spoke at an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Watergate scandal with some of its survivors at the National Press Club. While much of the discussion looked back at the historic clash with President Nixon, I was struck by a different question: Who actually won? From unilateral military actions to warrantless surveillance that were key parts of the basis for Nixon’s impending impeachment, the painful fact is that Barack Obama is the president that Nixon always wanted to be.

Four decades ago, Nixon was halted in his determined effort to create an “imperial presidency” with unilateral powers and privileges. In 2013, Obama wields those very same powers openly and without serious opposition. The success of Obama in acquiring the long-denied powers of Nixon is one of his most remarkable, if ignoble, accomplishments. Consider a few examples:

    Warrantless surveillance

Nixon’s use of warrantless surveillance led to the creation of a special court called theForeign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA). But the reform turned out to be more form than substance. The secret court turned “probable cause” into a meaningless standard, virtually guaranteeing any surveillance the government wanted. After hundreds of thousands of applications over decades, only a couple have ever been denied.

Last month, the Supreme Court crushed any remaining illusions regarding FISA when it sided with the Obama administration in ruling that potential targets of such spying had to have proof they were spied upon before filing lawsuits, even if the government has declared such evidence to be secret. That’s only the latest among dozens of lawsuits the administration has blocked while surveillance expands exponentially.

Indiana Jury Convicts Two Democratic Operatives Of Election Fraud, Illegally Placing Obama And Hillary Clinton On 2008 Primary Ballot…

    Via Fox News:

A jury in South Bend, Indiana has found that fraud put President Obama and Hillary Clinton on the presidential primary ballot in Indiana in the 2008 election. Two Democratic political operatives were convicted Thursday night in the illegal scheme after only three hours of deliberations. They were found guilty on all counts.

Former longtime St. Joseph County Democratic party Chairman Butch Morgan Jr. was found guilty of felony conspiracy counts to commit petition fraud and forgery, and former county Board of Elections worker Dustin Blythe was found guilty of felony forgery counts and falsely making a petition, after being accused of faking petitions that enabled Obama, then an Illinois Senator, to get on the presidential primary ballot for his first run for the White House.

Morgan was accused of being the mastermind behind the plot.

According to testimony from two former Board of Election officials who pled guilty, Morgan ordered Democratic officials and workers to fake the names and signatures that Obama and Clinton needed to qualify for the presidential race. Blythe, then a Board of Elections employee and Democratic Party volunteer, was accused of forging multiple pages of the Obama petitions.

“I think this helped uphold the integrity of the electoral system,” the prosecutor, Stan Levco told reporters.

This upheld the integrity? Five years later, and we have yet more proof that his presidency is built on fraudulent pillars, and this upheld the integrity of the system?? This country is upside down.

Tea Party Leaders Demand Obama Personally Apologize For IRS Targeting Of Conservative Groups
    [IMG]
If you believe this is the only instance of targeting by the Obama administration, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

    Via Buzzfeed:

WASHINGTON — Tea Party leaders Friday demanded President Barack Obama personally apologize for an IRS campaign that targeted conservative groups during the 2012 election.

Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin reacted forcefully Friday after an IRS official admitted what tea party activists had said all through the 2012 cycle was true: federal tax officials singled out conservative groups for extra scrutiny.

“It is suspicious that the activity of these ‘low-level workers’ was unknown to IRS leadership at the time it occurred,” she said in a statement. “President Obama must also apologize for his administration ignoring repeated complaints by these broad grassroots organizations of harassment by the IRS in 2012, and make concrete and transparent steps today to ensure this never happens again.”

IRS Issues Statement on Discrimination Against Conservatives: Mistakes Not ‘Political or Partisan’

On Friday morning, after the IRS’ Lori Lerner apologized for the agency’s targeted discrimination against conservative groups in 2012, the IRS released a statement. The statement itself obfuscated the problem with the IRS’ activities; instead of apologizing for the IRS’ discrimination problem, the statement apologized for misallocation of local versus federal resources, and then dishonestly claimed, “Mistakes were made initially, but there were in no way due to any political or partisan rationale.”

IRS Apologizes for Targeting Tea Party Groups in 2012

On Friday, the IRS apologized for singling out conservative groups, especially organizations that had “Tea Party” or “Patriot” in their names, for additional reviews during the 2012 election.

According to the Associated Press, Lois Lerner, who “heads the IRS unit that overseas tax-exempt groups,” said such groups were targeted and scrutinized excessively to see if they were in violation of their tax-exempt status.

At a conference in Washington, Lerner “said organizations that included the words ‘tea party’ or ‘patriot’ in their applications for tax-exempt status” were targeted by IRS workers in Cincinnati and conceded it was wrong.

“The IRS would like to apologize for that,” said Lois Lerner, the chief IRS official in charge of tax-exempt organizations

“That was wrong,” said Lerner. “That was absolutely incorrect, it was insensitive and it was inappropriate. That’s not how we go about selecting cases for further review.”

The IRS harassment of conservative groups was not politically motivated, claims the IRS. Furthermore, Lerner says the practice of targeting conservatives was done without the knowledge of top IRS officials and was the work of lower-level staff in Cincinatti.

The revelation stands in stark contrast to past proclamations from IRS officials. ”There’s absolutely no targeting,” said IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman last year.

As the Associated Press notes, many conservative groups “complained during the election that they were being harassed by the IRS” and said “the agency asked them an inordinate number of questions to justify their tax-exempt status.”

The IRS apology comes more than a year after radio host Mark Levin’s Landmark Legal Foundation wrote to the Inspector General of the U.S. Treasury in March 2012 to request an investigation of the IRS for targeting Tea Party groups.

“The information demanded in many cases goes far beyond the appropriate level of inquiry” for tax-exempt status, Levin wrote in his capacity as President of Landmark Legal. An investigation into the IRS “also must determine whether the relevant IRS employees are acting at the direction of politically motivated superiors.”

The persecution of the Tea Party from all sides is very interesting and thought provoking to me.

The Democrats like to portray them as white supremist, gun toting ultra religious zealots. That's not surprising. What is surprising is that a lot of Republicans feel the same way. These radical Tea partiers drive "The Architect" insane.

It's hard for me to fathom. A bunch of mainly middle income, hard working folks who profess adherence to the tenets of the US Constitution that this nation was founded on can elicit this much vitriol from all sides.

My take away from this is that the only difference between the two major political parties is in their names. They are both about perpetuating their own agendas, nothing more.

I am confused as to how the Tea Partiers are portrayed as well, especially when you compare the positive nature of how most people view the 99%ers. I mean, you have a largely grass-roots, loosely organized movement that has been above reproach when it comes to morality and being generally well-behaved, law-abiding citizens. Whereas on the other size, you have a group that are horrendous stewards of anything to do with general human decency. Yet the 99%ers are the heroes and the Tea Partiers are the evil, rich white men that need to be demonized??

And that is precisely why the tea party is attacked from both sides...

What doesn't help them is that they've let some really shady assholes, who have money, get close to them. It's a catch 22. You need money..and sadly, the middle doesn't have it so they make allegiances with some fringe twats who talk about the war of northern aggression, hating gays and building walls.

I honestly think most middle class white folks would be astonished at just how conservative a great many members of the gay and minority community are.. but those people feel constantly attacked by both the right and the middle. It's a strategic error in my opinion.

You gotta choose your battles and sadly the right and middle have been letting the left dictate the tempo (and battles) for a good 20 years now.

IRS Asked For “Reading List” And Synopsis Of Books Read; Tea Party Group Sends Back Constitution
    [IMG]
Government wanting to examine what you are reading? What are we, Soviet Russia?

    Via ABC News:

When Marion Bower decided to start her tea party organization in 2010, she didn’t know that it would take nearly two years for the Internal Revenue Service to approve her request for tax-exempt status

The Ohio woman also did not expect that providing information about the books her group read would be part of the application process.

“I was trying to be very cordial, but they wanted copies of unbelievable things,” Bower told ABC News today. “They wanted to know what materials we had discussed at any of our book studies.”

She ultimately sent one of the books, “The Five Thousand Year Leap,” promoted frequently by Glenn Beck, to the IRS official handling her tax-exempt request in Cincinnati. She also sent a paperback copy of the Constitution.

“They wanted a synopsis of all the books we read,” Bower said. “I thought, I don’t have time to write a book report. You can read them for yourselves.”
