Tim Tebow now tops the Forbes List of most influential athletes of 2013: http://www.forbes.com/sites/tomvanriper/2013/05/06/americas-most-influential-athletes-2/ Can't be a good thing for his comeback attempts.....unless some enterprising GM wants to sell a buttload of jerseys, cups and bobbleheads...
If he's that "influential", then all Tebow has to do is "influence" some team to hire him. This is too easy, right?
I think it underscores why he will have a hard time getting a chance somewhere. He can't just slip quietly in to town like most waived Qbs and ply his time on the bench learning the new system etc. He rides in anywhere he goes with a huge media splash and ESPN in tow and it seems NFL GMs just don't want that type of attention. Must not get enough revenue from jersey sales I guess.
Yes, because that is one thing NFL teams really hate.. making money. I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and assume that you mean to put a rim shot at the end of these sentences instead of periods.
I think Tebow is what he is and others try and get mileage from his personna..... not the least of which is ESPN. Even now the mention of his name makes people sit up and listen... for what's that's worth. I can't see it continuing if he doesn't get another opportunity. If no opportunities are forthcoming I will venture that never have I seen an NFL player in the history of the league get so little credit for what he did on the field.
Not morons Tom.... but Tebow's extra baggage keeps him at home... so far. Come to think of it.... not often do NFL types want to get involved with players known for having extra baggage.... Michael Vick excepted.
He is living in the wrong era. The NFL has totally evolved into a passing league and his passing skills are not his best attribute. The fact that a back like Eddy Lacy only gets drafted in the second round shows you how much the NFL has deemphasized the running game. I think what he needs is a team who is coached by someone who would be willing to go against the grain or NFL group think and construct an offense that would rely upon a QB's ability to run as a big component to the offense. If that took place, Tebow would be a great fit as I am sure your typical svelte and fast DB would not be looking forward to having to bring down that 18-wheeler. Hope in happens. I remember after Bill Walsh success, teams became smaller and more pass oriented. Parcells, in response, constructed a team that smash mouthed smaller teams and won the SB.
Fantastic point....as a matter of fact I thought the same thing (probably before Bobda, I just got lazy and didn't post anything...) when Lacy got drafted late.
Tom, the mark on Tebow from the get-go, when being looked at by the pros was a slow release. Did this ever go away?
My point was to place light on the fact that the Owners, Managers, and coaches must not see the halo around Tebow's head that Dave does. The second coming he could be... but not the second coming of Roger Staubach or Johnny Unitas.
Why did Jim Harbaugh go with Colin Kaepernick.....bceause of his passing ability... or because he could also run and make things happen. If you watched Denver's comeback wins with Tebow.... you know he wins because he makes things happen.... throwing or running. He may never get the chance again.... and would probably go down even statistically as the winningest QB ever to see such a limited NFL career cut short not by injury but by off-field politics.
It's not off field politics. It's a skill set that does not meet NFL standards. That's it. I have the same problem myself, believe it or not.
Let's face it Tebow is an enthusiastic Evangelical Christian. They're the type that often are on the fringe. You know the types the ones who want to define us. Now there are some out there just are vehemently opposed to those people and don't want to see them leading our country or sports teams.
Gipper, Do you really think those folks would let their beliefs or ethics stand in the way of winning or making money? :?:
I'll bet one thing, that if Dave and Tebow sat down and discussed politics that Dave would probably not agree with Tebow on anything.
