Update: Eight-Year-Old Child Killed In Boston Terror Attack, At Least 132 Injured, 17 Are In Critical Condition, 8 Are Children… Just awful. Via WBZ: An eight-year-old child is one of at least two people killed when a pair explosions tore through crowds at the Boston Marathon. Dozens were injured when two blasts erupted near the finish line in downtown Boston. A thick cloud of white smoke billowed into the air as rescue crews rushed to the scene. Via CNN: At least 132 people – including eight children – have been injured in the bombings, according to Boston-area hospitals. Boston police earlier said that two people were killed. At least 17 of the injured are in critical condition, and at least 25 are in serious condition, area hospitals said. A witness, Marilyn Miller, told CNN that she was about 30 feet away from the first bomb when it went off. The second bomb came about 12 seconds after and about 50 to 100 yards away from the first, according to authorities and an analysis of video from the site.
Flashback: Obama Declares “War On Terror” Is Over… Ft. Hood and now Boston, two terror attacks on U.S. soil under Obama’s watch. Via Telegraph (5/27/2010): President Barack Obama has rejected George W. Bush’s doctrine that placed the “war on terror” at the centre of American foreign policy. The US president has instead replaced it with a softer approach stressing “new partnerships” and multilateral diplomacy. “Our long-term security will not come from our ability to instill fear in other peoples but through our capacity to speak to their hopes,” Mr Obama said in a message introducing a new national security strategy. In the 52-page document, drawn up after 16 months of deliberations, Mr Obama outlines a much broader set of priorities and methods than Mr Bush’s tightly-focused determination to eradicate Islamism by any means possible and alone if necessary. “We will always seek to delegitimise the use of terrorism and to isolate those who carry it out,” it states. “Yet this is not a global war against a tactic – terrorism – or a religion – Islam. “We are at war with a specific network, al-Qaeda, and its terrorist affiliates who support efforts to attack the United States, our allies, and partners.”
I don't understand why Obama refuses to call obvious acts of terror, tragedies. This was clearly a well planned and calculated act of terror, it could be domestic terror or it could be militant islamists but it's an act of terror.
I refuse to watch any video on the internet about terror. It will increment the hit count and further inflate the ego of these sick bastards that perpetrate these acts. Take away their 15 minutes of fame and we may see less of these acts.

He's 19 years old and from all personal accounts, there's nothing that could indicate anything like this was on the horizon. The older brother, that's a different story.. but did he really have so much sway over his younger brother that he'd take a kid who seemingly enjoyed the American life and created a kid who would want to watch the world burn?? Something is off here, but it is far more plausible than 99.9% of anything coming out of the mouths from the talking heads on tv... Ridge included. What a collection of asshats.
I agree with Corey re: talking heads. Unfortunately, they're paid to talk but not intelligent enough to talk smart. Did you hear that the FBI questioned the older brother at the request of an unnamed foreign government but didn't see a problem? I'm not blaming the FBI. It just shows how something like this can happen despite our best efforts to prevent it. The obvious answer is to beef up police presence at major events. On a related note, I am very impressed with how the authorities identified the suspects and went about finding them. It's tragic that the young campus policeman had to die, but the authorities were relentless in their pursuit. Thank a cop today.
 My younger cousin Mike teaches at MIT and lives in Watertown w. his wife and their young son 6 mos. He said it has been the longest 48 hours but said all the college kids hit the streets as soon as it was over. I am so happy that he is safe .
 re: at the request of an unnamed foreign government The foreign government was Russia. When Tamerlan Tsarnaev went back there for six months, he was meeting with and training with Chechen crazies, so the Russkies tried to give us a heads-up. It appears that someone at Homeland Security had their head down... Because they're out there looking for mad TEA Partiers with funny signs?
I have a problem with how close Boston appeared to be under marshal law. Glad the culprit was found but marshal law scares the hell out of me especially when gun control measures are being kicked around.
Ditto Tom. It's not so much the way Boston handled it. That's how they do things. That's a brutally tough city and they take zero **** from anyone. To me, it's the precedent that was set.. although one could argue New York was essentially shut down.. but for very different reasons.
 Geography plays a role here. New York is on islands and Boston is on a peninsula. It's possible to lock down both places without much force. You would need a lot more than that to lock down the larger western or southern states. When JFK got shot, the Dallas PD never did get total control of their own police headquarters...
Report: Tamerlan Tsarnaev Met With Known Islamic Militant In Dagestan Mosque Six Times… How long is the left going to play the, “gee, I wonder what their motivation was” game? Via Telegraph: The FBI was alerted by Russia’s security services to serious new concerns about one of the Boston bomb suspects as recently as last November, it was claimed on Sunday night. As the agency was accused of “dropping the ball” over the case, NBC News reported that Tamerlan Tsarnaev had been seen making six visits to a known Islamic militant in a mosque in the Russian republic of Dagestan. The visits came during a six month trip that Tamerlan made to the city of Makhachkala to see his family, NBC said. According to a local police official, a case file on Tsarnaev was then handed over to the FBI along with a request for further information. However, the FBI never replied. The agency has already admitted that it interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev in 2011 after Russia raised concerns that he was becoming a follower of radical Islam, but found nothing “derogatory” against him and did not pursue the case further. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/10008638/Boston-bomber-FBI-dropped-the-ball-over-Tamerlan-Tsarnaev.html
After seeing more than a few Internet postings calling for action to be taken against the Czech Republic in retaliation for the Boston bombings, their ambassador to the United States posted a geography lesson on the embassy website : http://en.rian.ru/world/20130421/180754029.html?id=
Yeah.... I can see how this philosophy is one of abject liberalism.... I thought the left wanted more government intervention into asshole's private lives and into their ability to buy guns and acquire weapons??
