My immediate reaction is that he will be a good fit. He's done a great job wherever he's coached, with the exception of Iowa. Iowa wasn't bad but not up to the standard set during the eras of Lute Olsen and Dr. Tom Davis. If you look up his records at Div. III Manchester, SW Mo. State (prior to Iowa), and New Mexico, you'll see that at each of those stops, he raised the level of the programs to record heights via tough defense and up-tempo offense. He took SW Mo. State to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 1999. His career coaching record to date is 463-235. He's 48 years old. The article I read announcing his hiring said that he has recruited well in the Los Angeles area. Good luck, Steve. You'll need it.
 The last UCLA coach won the 12Pac this year and went to the Final Four more times than all the other 12Pac coaches combined, and they fired him anyway. Alford is a good coach, but he'll have to be a lot better than good to keep this job...
what JOCO said. Basically, this will all boil down to how well he sells himself to the pimp factory of AAU coaches who now, unbelievably, own the LA basin.
