I didn't watch the whole game but turned the tv on with 5-10 minutes to go. I pretty much gave up on Notre Dame winning with about 2 minutes to go and had pulled up the guide on the tv to see what else was on. The game was still on in the upper right hand corner of the tv and before switching I put the game back on full picture and noticed the score was much closer so stayed tuned. 12 points in 42 seconds, unbelievable. Louisville getting the last possession in all 5 ot's but not being able to score, unbelievable, the big scoring point after point in the its unbelievable. I am glad I just happened to turn the game on.
I thought Louisville had this game won and could not believe that the Irish fought back to win...Wow, talk about an incredible game, congrats Irish...
Apparently Jamois Slaugther was denied his appeal on the 6th year. So he'll be moving on, but I think we will be fine back there. It would have been nice to have him back but there is a lot of young talent in the DB's and Coach Elliot is doing a great job of developing them.
Since all of us came from Prodigy this might be a blast from the past. Somebody on NDNation posted that Tim Kovach was disbarred in Michigan last year. He was an absolute pain in the ass during our days on Prodigy. I think even Michigan posters like Bobda didn't like him.
I was a relative newcomer to the board when I came on via Prodigy, but I remember him well as a pain in the arse.
Reading exerpts from material filed by the State of Michigan Attorney Dicipline Board I see that inter alia, Timmy was accused of "obloquy". Webster defines obloquy as: : a strongly condemnatory utterance : abusive language : the condition of one that is discredited : bad repute He never changed from Prodigy.
Tim Kovach <t>oh yes, I remember Tim Kovach.....<br/> <br/> He was more than a pain in the ass, He was an ass. Sometimes people like him get what they deserve and it appears he has now.</t>
Very ugly loss to Providence this weekend and a very tough game tonight against Pitt at their place. I'm not sure what is wrong with this team, we've had some losses where we just look lost out there and then some great wins like the Louisville 5OT game and don't forget we beat Kentucky earlier. I thought this team would be good, not final four good, but maybe a shot at the Sweet 16 if everything went well. Jack Cooley is a very good player and Jerian Grant and Eric Atkins are both very good and upper classmen. But something's wrong with the chemistry of the team, don't have a clue. It shouldn't be leadership as we Cooley, Atkins, Grant are all veterans and Scott Martin was a 6th year player. We are not a young team searching, we are a veteran team. Lose tonight and the road to the dance gets tough. On the other side, the women continue to roll along and have a big date with UConn at home as the next big test. The womens teams is unexpectedly good, they lost several vets who were key to their 2 final four runs, leaving Skylar Diggins to guide a young team. But here we are, #2, and having an excellent shot at a #1 seed, no worse likely than a #2 seed even with a loss to UConn and not winning the Big East tournament. I don't really follow Hockey but I see that the Irish won their game with Miami in the College Hockey Classic at Solider Field, Wisconisn and Minn was the other game. I saw the aerial photo of the game and it sure looked like a pretty empty stadium despite ND and Wisconsin being there. I would think Minn would also be a good draw in Chicago. ND Lacrosse thumped the Dukies...always a good thing! Irish Baseball off to a 2-1 start, lost to Mercer....who the hell are they?
The official paid attendance was 52,000+, which is pretty good for Chicago in the middle of winter. I saw only the 3rd period of the second game. By then, many fans had left, and the stands looked sparsely populated.
Don't know when this was taken...it's from und.com For what it's worth I don't really get the lure of outdoor hockey. I know that hockey fans seems to like it, and as an event it seems in general to sell out. But Why being in the upper deck of a football stadium, miles from the rink works I have no idea. It barely works for basketball (Final 4) but at least there you have a ball that is 50x the size of a puck so at least you can follow it.
My college roommate has been a Blackhawks season ticket holder for many years. IMO he is the ultimate hockey fan. He now lives in Santa Fe, NM, but he goes back several times each season to see games. He is adamant that he would not attend an outdoor hockey game. For him, it has less to do with the weather than with the seating issues in football and baseball stadiums, which supports TOK's point above. He didn't go the the Blackhawks' Wrigley Field game a few years ago for that reason.
The Red Wings were scheduled to host the NHL Winter Classic this year. They were expecting a full house at U of M stadium. BTW the game was on here on one of the sports channels. It was opposite the ND Ladies basketball on another channel.
It does seem like most of the outdoor hockey classics are very popular and sellouts. Not sure why it wasn't a sellout in Chicago, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and ND all most likely have a lot of Alumni and are very good teams. Miami is a very good team but doubt they have a lot of alumni/fans in Chicago.
Very big win for Irish Men tonight on the road in Pittsburgh. Panthers were ranked higher than us, and we were down a lot early 19-3, missed something like 18 of our first 19 shots, then Connaugthon hits a three and we were off and running. Mike Brey got a rare technical and that seemed to also fire us up to go on a run close the gap and then finish them off in the 2nd half. Very tough team to figure out.
