93,000? That's about how many we got for our spring game last year! Keep working on it Husker!!! 8) I am looking forward to making the trip out this year......
I don't think they can Doc...they're open underneath, like bleachers (see picture)....not sure they can support it. Also, as you can see, they're more angled out than most stadiums...when your at the top of the North and South endzones, you're a long ways from the action. Plus that's like a storage and loading dock area. Because of the history and the fact that it's located on Campus, I think this it it. You can on go higher on the east side, and the west is the press boxes and luxory suites.
Looks to me like they need to tear down one of those endzones and then extent the East/West stands till they meet in the middle. We had to do that at Texas, reduced capacity temporarily to gain increase.
   I am looking forward to getting there....it's on my stadium bucket list. Doesn't look like we're gonna be out there for awhile - at least 2017.
It could be expanded. That was the debate at Tennessee before adding the upper deck to the North Endzone (covered seats to left in the picture below). The built up the support for it around the outer edge of the lower seats to include walking ramps to make the support structure wide enough to support the weight of the seats and fans. See picture below. The last expansion was to add the luxury suites on the East side of the stadium.
This is DKR today... This is DKR after they added the upper deck on the west side, which wasn't there when I was a student. Notice the track and how far back the endzone seats are. This goes way back, even before I was a student!
Terry, Was that last picture in the same location as DKR now or did it become the soccer field that is now due East of DKR?
When the Stadium was opened in 1924 it was on it's current site, previous to that they had played on Clark Field which was at a different site. Certainly things have changed in that area though. I had the same thought as you.
I'm thinking we are close to hitting the peak of the Nebraska population here so just add a couple pull out chairs outside the 50 yard line and problem solved....
The contractors who will be doing the rebuild of Kyle are patients of mine, long time Aggies of course. Great guys, they'll do a great job for you.
