I was not really all that shocked when I heard it, I have read several times that he was in declining health and this is not a job for somebody in frail health. I had hoped that if that was the case that he would resign. While he is the first pope since the middle ages to resign, I hope in the future that more popes recognize their physical limitations and resign when they are no longer up to the job. My fear is that as a pope becomes more and more physically and possibly mentally unfit for the job, that underlings who have agendas will take over and manipulate him and the office for their personal agendas. Hard to imagine, I know, that those close to the pope might do that, but men are men and not always honorable when they see an opportunity to seize power. Pope Resigns
I want squelch any rumors that might be circulating. I have not been contacted by the Vatican, and I have no intention applying for the job.
You were #2 on the list!! AJ was #1, you don't have to be a Priest to be pope, although he is already a Cardinal.
Ty Willingham is a Cardinal now and he has some history trying to rebuild Catholic institutions that have shown recently declining numbers.
Well for awhile he was an "unoffical" coach for the Stanford womens golf team. Didn't actually coach golf, but supposedly worked with them on motivation and stuff like that. They have a new golf coach who didn't want him around, so he's not with them anymore. He was never paid, volunteer.
Pic Of The Day From the Daily Mail, a shot of the Vatican being hit by lightning today, the same day the Pope resigned, the first time a Pope has resigned in 600 years. Geeesh! I think we had better pound Temple in the opener just to play it safe. The Supreme Being is losing his sense of humor...
