The 103rd session of the Nebraska State Legislature to be exact. I'm taking a State and Local Politics class this semester, and we have a project to go see in person a Bill that's being argued. I have chosen LB180, which adresses the requirement for all Nebraska State Colleges and Universities to pay for any remaining tuition and fees for the immediate dependents of deceased or 100% disabled Veterans, not covered by other funds such as the GI Bill, grants, wounded warrior funds, etc. I'll have a full report after the field trip. BTW, if I'm the only spectator there, do you think they'll ask me to stand and identify myself?....
Wow! Less than 3 1/2 pages double-spaced. They must use common sense in the Nebraska legislature. I've neve seen any piece of proposed legislation that briefly described.
Here's one of the most remarkable documents ever passed by Congress. It's the Homestead Act that incredibly changed the lives of countless Americans and opened up the West. http://www.ourdocuments.gov/doc_large_image.php?flash=true&doc=31 Compare that with say the "Affordable" Health Care Act.
It took longer to introduce the committee members than it did to brief the bill. No questions, no opponents, unanimous vote to put it through to Legislature vote. I was there a total of 5 minutes. That's pretty damn efficient.
