Chrysler to build Jeeps in China

    Home - by BigFurHat - January 15, 2013 - 22:00 America/New_York - 6 Comments

    Detroit News

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said the automaker plans to build some Jeeps in China for the local market — and later, in Russia.

“As part of our global expansion of the Jeep brand, there are some cars — that because of the price position in the market — can never be made in the U.S. and exported,” Marchionne told reporters on the sidelines of the North American International Auto Show. “We’re going to be announcing the first step in the globalization of Jeep (in China). There’s another one that’s going to come in Russia. These things are part of a natural process of expansion.”

Marchionne said he will keep “the pillar cars of the Jeep (brand) in the United States. Wrangler is one. The Grand Cherokee is another. These are things that need to be protected because they represent the best and the essence of Jeep. If you tell me I cannot make a Patriot somewhere else, I might as well go out of the market.”

Marchionne came under harsh criticism from Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who falsely suggested that Chrysler would shift production from Ohio to China of the Jeep brand. The Romney ad on the issue was branded the “lie of the year” by fact checker “Politifact.”

Marchionne rejected Romney’s assertion in a letter to employees last fall. “I set the record straight to our people,” he said. “We live in a world where we tell each other the truth and I think the stuff that was coming out was improperly phrased — it certainly was not reflective of the position of Chrysler.”

    more

Much is being made around the rightosphere that Romney has been vindicated for his statement during the debates that “Jeep is shipping jobs overseas.”

Even with this announcement that isn’t the case. Jeep is expanding in China and Russia. These are Jeeps for sale in Russia and China to their markets. BUT, having said this, Romney WILL BE RIGHT. Romney made a forecast based on all the information he was hearing. Romney can’t crow yet that he was right. But once operations are humming in China, they will shut down the U.S. division and export Jeeps to us for our consumers.

To use a lefty phrase – you don’t have to be a weatherman to tell which way the wind is blowing.

With Election Behind Him, Obama Kills Jobs Council

    Home - by BigFurHat - January 29, 2013 - 09:30 America/New_York - 13 Comments

    The Lonely Conservative

Now that the election is behind him President Obama no longer needs to appear to be concerned about job creation in the United States. So he’s officially killing his jobs council.

Now that President Obama has been re-elected, the vaunted jobs council is about to meet its demise. …

A White House aide tells The Hill today that the jobs council “was only intended” to last for two years. Obama is reportedly irked by the fact that the jobs council has recommended lifting regulations rather than creating new ones. Since the American people obviously did not hold Obama accountable for his economic failures as president, he is now going to focus on other issues: climate change, gun control, abortion, and immigration. Yep, that’s his true agenda right there. Plus, if more people have jobs, there will be less people signing up for food stamps and other welfare benefits.

8.5 Million American’s Left The Labor Force In Obama’s First Term
    [IMG]
    But..but..”recovery”!

    Via Newsbusters:

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released jobs numbers for January Friday showing that non-farm payroll employment increased by 157,000 and the unemployment rate rose to 7.9 percent.

Lost in these headline numbers was another rise in the number of people not in the labor force.

This number now stands at a staggering 89 million, up from 80.5 million when President Obama took office.

This means that there are currently 8.5 million more Americans not in the labor force than just four years ago.

    Forget all the other numbers.

This continued explosion of people not in the labor force should be tremendously concerning as it represents an obstacle for the government to ever balance the budget without drastically raising taxes on those still working.

    Dave is right.
Corporate greed drives all decisions like this.
We better pray Honda and Toyota don't realize that universal truth and move their production back to Nippon...

    re: Jeeps

I owned a Jeep for many years. It was made in Canada.

re: 157,000 new jobs last month

My generation (The Baby Boomers) is now retiring at a rate of 10,000 per day. The economy must create at least 300,000 new jobs per month just to stay even with the retirement rate. Obama's policies mean 8% unemployment and 2% growth for the rest of my life...
