Reference Greg Oden, I was reading that the Miami Heat might be interested in taking a chance on him as a true center, even with his record of injuries.
Wiscy outhustled, outshot, and just plain outplayed IU. You can't win the Big10 if you don't win at home. I did not realize until I heard last night that Crean is 0-9 vs. Wisconsin and that IU has not beaten Wisconsin since 2007. IU has lost 11 straight to the Badgers.
That was a big win for Wisky.....add them to the mix of teams that can and will contend for the title. Sparty, Wisky, M, IU, Ill, Minny and the good guys. Whoever holds serve on home court will have the best shot....big game this weekend in ELansing!
Sparty is playing well and winning the close ones, defeating Wisky in the Kohl Center last night. Ohio State gave up a 24 point lead in the second half but managed to hang on for a win over Iowa here in Columbus. No easy games in the B1GTEN!
I watched the MSU-Wisconsin game last night. There are two ways to describe the last 8-10 minutes of the game. One is UGLY! The other is a display of two tenacious defenses. I prefer the latter. The freshman from Fishers, IN, Gary Harris is playing very well for MSU.
Sparty is showing themselves to be the class of the league thus far.....tough win in Madison and did what they needed to do to win a squeaker over us in ELansing. Alot of basketball to be played however.
Big win for the Hoosiers today in Bloomington. The conference race tightens up a bit We play Wisky Tuesday night here and Indiana Sunday. I doubt we will be able to duplicate the win against Michigan here at home!
Don, we've got to continue to hold serve at home.....I saw alot of good things at Happy Valley Saturday. The emergence of Thompson as an outside threat and his more confident floor play is a very positive development. I expect a typical hardfought Wisky game....defense carries the day for the good guys at home.
Cody Zeller was a nonfactor in the game until the last two minutes. He was completely dominated by the MSU big bodies. Then, at the end, he made the play of the game by standing his ground and taking a charge, thus preventing MSU from scoring a layup and coming within two points. That turnover by MSU basically ended their chances. I hope Zeller realizes that he's not yet ready for the physical play of the NBA and stays at least another year. Gary Harris, the MSU frosh from my town (Fishers, IN) was as hot from 3-point land as anyone I've seen this year. The kid is a player.
Tim, most of the Purdue List, myself included, are expecting to be taken to the woodshed. We have good (young) hustling athletic kids...but no real shooters and our free throw shooting is awful. Have been improving and are giving folks a better match than we did earlier in the year. We now are starting 3 freshmen and hoping next years class will compliment them and help fill our voids. Terone Johnson is a good and versatile Junior and probably our most consistent shooter, even though he does more damage off the dribble. Senior DJ Byrd is a ballhandler, defender, and hustler but he misses a lot of shots. He has gone through streaks, though, where he shoots very well. Hammons (freshman) is a big man to watch. He will be a force in years to come.
Buckeyes win over Wisky this evening, but the first fifteen minutes were tough to watch. I thought the teams might end up with scoring in the single digits.
Excellent win for the guys last night....Badgers are a pesky bunch and a tough, physical out. Always happy anytime to beat them. Great run in the second half sealed the deal, Thomas was unstoppable and is having a tremendous year. It seems every game is a another forward for some of our young sophs and a step back for others. Ross seems as if he is becoming more comfortable without forcing things on the offensive end and the light seems to have gone off in his eyes in terms of what Matta wants from a defensive intensity standpoint. I was hoping for another solid game from Thompson to validate his performance at Happy Valley, but he was invisible on the offensive end, though always puts out great defensive effort. Amir, Amir, Amir.....very active early on the glass which is a good thing but has light years to go to become even a hint of an offensive threat in the low post. We are running out of time to have him become a material asset to this team on the offensive end by tournament time....Huskers this weekend on the road and then the Hoosiers at home. That is a BIG, B1G game.....need to continue to hold serve at home.
Terry, I was really surprised that Matta decided to go inside last night, but it certainly worked. Like you Thompson seems to run hot and cold. Definitely is going to be an interesting season.
Managed to get by Purdue? :? :? Maybe one of the worst losses for Purdue in a long time. There is one of those IU basketball fans/ND football fans like you Tim who had this to say about Purdue and Painter especially. I'll be curious to see what Stu says.
IU <t>Terry, <br/> <br/> Just trying to be a little kinder/gentler when it comes to Purdue. If I said what I really thought.....well let, not go there</t>
Terry, I'm not sure what the guy's point is. Purdue started 3 freshman in last night's game. This clearly is a rebuilding year for Purdue, and it showed last night. IU has won the last 3 games after a long losing run in the years prior to last year. Like most rivalries, this one is cyclical. Over the course of the 100 yr. old series, Purdue holds a 112 to 88 game lead. Even the Knight-Keady years were close to even. Purdue has won 22 Big Ten championships to IU's 20. Recruiting-wise, IU seems to have the current edge, but Painter has established himself as an outstanding coach who gets the most out of his kids. I'm a fan of both teams and have no reason to tout one over the other. I'm just setting the record straight by refuting the disrespectful tone of the writer, who thinks that by quoting facts without context makes him smart. Not so.
