I live near DC. Last night on George Michael's 5 PM sportscast he devoted the entire segment to Arrelious Benn, the much-sought-after wideout from DC's Dunbar High School. This kid is a beast. First, take a look at his physique: They showed clips of him catching about 15 passes, many of them TDs. On most of them he had outrun the QB's arm because of his speed (supposedly 4.4-4.5) and had to stop, jump, and out wrestle 1-2 defenders for the ball, then turn and run again. On one catch he slipped on his cut and still caught the ball as he was laying down. One thing I noticed; on his TD catches there was no posing, no spiking the ball, no celebration at all. He just simply flipped the ball to the referee. During the interview I was impressed by how grounded he is. Michael was saying, "You're the #1 WR in the country, that's gotta make you feel good." He replied, "I didn't say I was #1, someone else said that. I still have to work on running my routes, I can get a lot better at that." When they showed him relaxing in his living room, what was he reading? A Notre Dame football yearbook of course. I read where he and Clausen are pretty tight, and both made visits last weekend to South Bend. He's ours to lose right now, I hope he commits soon.
I hope we get him, we really need some great WR to go with Clausen and Charlies offense. Of the guys that we currently have that are underclassmen, none have really stood out, Grimes is a nice reciever but a bit of a smurf, and DJ Hord has yet to play and might be a bit of a project. Rob Parris is a freshman with Samardizja like potential in that he's a big kid with great hands, not a burner though. Barry Gallup is another smurf type as is George West. It would be nice to have a big fast WR, who can catch the ball.
Yes... <t>Great looking young man the Irish need and I think we get in the end. I'm wondering how the wide out from Florida that is a freshemn is doing and if we see him soon?</t>
Tom Lemming is reporting that Benn is a silent commit to the Irish. I think this is going to be something like the Demitrius Jones recruitment. A lot of rumours while he takes his visits, but that Charlie gets his man in the end. gipper, i know that was a quip you made..but I think there's a lot of truth in it as well. Irish DB's have no tall fast wr's to practice against. tall med speed in JeffS and MoSto last year but no real burners. Terry
