I don't know why but I always assumed that beer could not be sold at an on campus stadium. I guess because it is not sold at either Notre Dame Stadium or Royal-Memorial Stadium in Austin. But according to this article on the new on campus stadium for the Houston Cougars, they will be selling beer. Cougar Stadium
Are they re-zoning the area? I guess it won't matter so long as they never host a championship game. I say good for them. You can't sell beer at championship games, I believe. I could look up the regulation, but I'm too lazy.
No beer currently at Martin Stadium (except, new this year, in the luxury boxes) but they DO allow re-entry so you can get your drink on in the parking lot and come back and watch whatever mockery of football the team is making.
At the ND-Navy game in Dublin they sold beer. (Guiness on tap no less.) I went to a game at Sun Devil stadium about 10 yrs. ago and they had lots of beer stands all around the stadium. But they were all closed. They were open for the Cardinals game the following day. For some reason I thought that alcohol sales to the public were not allowed in stadiums on college campuses but there might be different rules for games played in public arenas. I recall going to the Motor City Bowl about 5 yrs. ago at Ford field and we could buy beer.
I've been to three championship games, one in NOLA - Superdome, two in Phoenix - one in SunDevil Stadium and one in Glendale. Beer was available at all three - at ridiculous prices. I think a 16oz beer at the Superdome cost me $10...seriously. In Columbus on campus, they don't sell beer at the stadium, but at the Schott (basketball arena) beer is available in the suites/boxes and the club seat level. Don't know if it is sold in the general admission areas.....
BT, where does the name "Schott" come from? I associate it with the former owner of the Cincinnati Reds.
lol...please God no! It is not Marge!!! "Schott" is short for Schottenstein, the real name of the facility. The Value City Arena at the Schottenstein Center...how is that for maxing out the naming rights $$$$. The Schottenstein's are one of Columbus' oldest and wealthiest families and their privately-held holding company Schottenstein Stores Corp. owns Value City Furniture among other holdings.......
BT....Haha! I recall the name Value City Arena. Now I have a clear picture of its full name and nickname. Thanks.
