I've been so concerned with my team winning one conference game I haven't had the time nor the desire to think about those on a higher plne than mine. :?

    Prett good list Kes.

Don't know that I would change it much other than maybe to elevate Tenn up significantly higher just so I don't get banned. :)

Ok, now add to each of those and make them 16 team conf's, (ACC/BE/ND) and then we'll see whose left out (e.g., Boise St., etc.)

I think you have a pretty good list. Regardless that Stanford beat Oregon though I would probably put Oregon on top in the Pac 12.

I like Kes's lists too, but I would leave Stanford right where they are. They were the best team Notre Dame saw all year. They had the best set of LBs, with Chase Thomas and Shayne Skov. They also had the 2nd best running back that we saw in Stepfan Taylor and they had quality QBs standing in rows. That's a very good program...

I have no real argument there JO'Co but it's just my opinion that Oregon would win a rematch.

No big thing though, it's two very good programs.

I like Kes' list but here are my issues.

Georgia ia awful low for the SEC East champs. There's a very real chance that they could beat Alabama. If they can protect Murray, they have a chance.

Also, I'm still wondering if I wouldn't put OU over Kstate still... if KState gets whacked by Texas (I guess that depends on which Texas shows up), then I'd have to say OU.. if KState wins, I go with KState.

Northwestern may need to be higher in the B1G

Corey I can't disagree about Georgia, but I will hold off before moving them up. They had the easiest schedule of the top 6 teams and I am not sold on them yet. If they play Bama close or win then bump them up. :)

A very small nit. I would put Michigan State ahead of Purdue. Overall, I believe Kes has done an excellent job of ranking teams, especially in conferences, like the B10, that he doesn't follow closely.

It's cool that we have a resident statistician.

Corey, IMO Northwestern is on the cusp of moving up one or even two spots but is not quite there yet.

    Agreed....

A very good Georgia team would have beaten turnover prone Florida by 3 Tds if they were that good and never would have been blown out by SouCar.

That said... Georgia seems to have received a lift from the Fla game so they might be a little bit better now than earlier.

I think Bama is still the SEC's best team and I want the best team to face ND..... so RTR!

Somebody said that Mich State, other than the Notre Dame game, lost all their games by an avg of less than 3 points. Their defense was good this year but they stunk on offense. Bobda pointed out that Northwestern really missed an opportunity this year, played and lost several close games.

Stanford/Oregon – This is one that I could have gone either way. Stanford isn’t as fast as Oregon, but they are very disciplined and displayed great tackling form. Their offense is a big, bruising thing that isn’t too shabby, either. I went with Stanford, but I don’t think there’s a wrong answer between these two.

Northwestern – Again, between PSU, Wisconsin, and Northwestern I think you have a pick ‘em. In my view, they went 0-3 against any decent competition (PSU, Nebraska, Michigan) and didn’t play anyone else worth a damn. PSU beat both NW and Wiscy, and Wiscy beat (barely) a Utah St. team that was better than most of the teams on NW’s schedule (yes, better than Syracuse and Vandy). If you want to switch NW and Wiscy, I’d be okay with that, but NW’s thing is they have POTENTIAL and didn’t demonstrate the ability to tap that potential in any meaningful way.

Georgia – Another year past, and another year that Georgia has consensus all-world talent with really, not much to show us for it. I’m in the same boat with Georgia as I was at the beginning of the year. Who have they played?? How do we judge how good they are?? They lost to an SC team whose best wins were against them and Clemson but lost to (admittedly good) LSU and Florida. The ONLY other good team Georgia beat was Florida. There is NOBODY else in their schedule against whom they can be judged. Now, they go up against Alabama which will be a pretty good measuring stick IF they win. However, if they lose, I STILL don’t know anything about them. In fact, I probably should put them below South Carolina as the #6 team in the SEC because we at least have some kind of gauge for SC. All-world talent plus 1-1 against the only two decent teams on their schedule doesn’t get them any higher. If they beat Bama, I’ll put them up at #2/#3. If they lose to Bama, they’re no better than one above Vandy.

Purdue/Michigan St. – Yeah, I probably should have MSU above Purdue here. MSU went 2-5 against their tougher opponents vs. Purdue going 0-5. I guess I was trying to give my fellow ‘Boxer the benefit of the doubt here, oops! :)

KSU/OU – Right now, this is a tossup to me awaiting this weekend. KSU has the worse loss between the two in Baylor, who exposed that nobody in the Big 12 seems to offer scholarships to defensive players (tip o' the hat to CoCo). Yet, they won the head-to-head. KSU has a pretty weak schedule, with one more decent game left to prove if they belong. OU’s schedule wasn’t that great this year, either, going 2-2 against their better competition (one of which was against #1 ND) but other than that, they haven’t played anyone of consequence to overcome their early matchup against KSU. We’ll see if this changes after this weekend.

Not sure why...unless you just like their colors better.

Both teams had extremely equivalent seasons. You could give them the tie-breaker for going 4-3 against common opponents while we went 3-4. They beat 2 teams we lost to (Wisc and Minn) and lost to one we beat (Iowa)

    Equal conference and non-conference records.

I might give it to us because we won our last 3 games after a mid season string of losses. They lost 4 of their last 6 games...2 of their last 3.

Kes you're pretty much right on....especially about Georgia.

Florida fans are very frustrated that the Gators chose that game to get so sloppy on offense and give Driskel no protection. That said....the Georgia game came at the end of a 4 game stretch of LSU, at Vandy ( 8-4 ), SouCar and then the Dawgs.

No matter what anyone says.. or wants to believe.. or wants us to believe here on Skybox.... that is a tough 4 game stretch of SEC games and as expected with that kind of run UF had several key injuries on the OL by the time they rolled in to Jax.

Bama should beat Georgia by 14 ponts cause I think the Tide is pretty healthy and they certainly didn't break much of a sweat last week vs. Auburn.

Dave, if you’re agreeing with me, I better check my premises. ;)

That being said, you’re not going to convince me that Vandy is in any way a part of a “tough 4 game stretch”. They are average at best. LSU, SC, Georgia I’ll give you. Vandy, uh uh. 8-4 against bad high school teams doesn’t make them a good SEC team. They are better than Missouri, Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, all of which were HORRIBLE. By comparison, that makes them better than horrible (and FCS) teams. Not good.

Kes, if MSU did better against tougher foes then they did worser (as the grandkids would say) against lesser opposition. Our records are equal.

Not bringing up how tough we played MS and OSU...there are no moral victories. MSU played OSU pretty tough also.

I wouldn't have argued had you originally put MSU on top because I'd make it pretty much a tie anyway. I do object to it being an oops. LOL.

vandy was good enough this year that the Dores were certainly no "breather" and they rarely are for UF in Nashville.

Ole Miss is a decent team...not great... but decent.

Vandy pounded Tenn and several other teams this year by big scores.

In any event sandwiched in between LSU and SC it wasn't a cake game.

    Stu,

I actually - as I've stated previously - am a Purdue fan. Unfortunately, this year they were way down despite their 6-6 record. The kicker for me is their drubbing by the Gophers. I called it a small nit because IMO MSU is slightly better THIS year, but only slightly. I really have no problem leaving Kes' rankings as they are.
