This caught my eye. I'm glad they are holding refs to a higher standard, but I'm puzzled at the player suspension, given the circumstances.

I don't understand what was done wrong here, was the 10 sec runoff wrong, or was allowing FSU to take a timeout and halt the 10 sec runoff?

That is the rule. If the offense has a time out left, they can take the time out to prevent the run off.

This actually makes me feel pretty good about the game this year in Tallahassee when Florida will take on FSU. This sort of high profile action by the league a scant month before the Gators take on the noles is bound to carry over for awhile.

To this day the most referee affected Florida Gator game that I have ever witnessed ( by a whisker over one other.... now don't start TT )..... was the one in 2004 when Ron Zook's Gators were just plain robbed by ACC officials in the Swamp. I haven't had much respect for ACC officiating ever since but this step by Swofford their commssioner sets a pretty good example of what not to do for the game in Tallahassee.

...Good question Bill.... I don't get it.

Hey with what Tom said I still want to know what the referee did wrong? If FSU could call a timeout and get the time back what was wrong?

Probably because he did it so late?

    Just curious.

Apparently it is because he ran the 10 seconds off the clock in the first place when FSU had a timeout remaining.

Bill I've asked the question on a couple of boards and the answer I got both times was that it had to do with the crew not discussing with FSU whether or not they wanted to use their last time out to stop the run off, instead just let it run off and sent Miami to the locker room.

Sorta like when the refs didn't ask Ron Zook if they should start the clock after a penalty walk-off when the other team had zero time-outs?

....OK.... I'm outta here.... :p
