I've been meaning to address this but my trip to Notre Dame put me behind, but now that you have brought it up!

Things are in complete meltdown in Longhorn land. After a 4-0 start, even though the defense did not play well in any of the games there was optimism in Austin due to the good play at QB of David Ash and WR's. Most thought going into the season that we would have a top 5 defense and that if Ash could just not lose game for us and provide a solid offense that we would win 10 games. Nobody was thinking undefeated.

However after the win in Stillwater all the red flags were going up on the Texas defense. The OSU 2nd string QB whipped through us and their RB had a career day against out defense. We were lucky to win, our guy fumbled before he got over the goal line but the ref called TD and the review held up. Even the most diehard Texas fan knew he didn't score, most thought we should have had the ball on the 1 1/2 yard line or there abouts and assumed we would have scored on the next play so no big deal. Of course we all know that is not a given and OSU could have stopped us or we could have fumbled again or anything. But we got the win and weren't feeling very good about the Defense.

Now West Virgina is the OSU offense on steroids, if you remember the WVA coach was the OCoord at OSU and installed that offense there and has the same offense at WVA with better talent. So the defense gets run over, around and under all evening and we lose. Our offense in both games was better than expected in the preseason, if our defense had been what was expected then we'd have beaten WVA.

OK now people are getting off the Manny Diaz boat in droves, after the bowl game last year they were worried that he would leave after 2012 for a HC job somewhere. Now they would like him fired, now, not at the end of the season. Grumbling starts about maybe it's time for Mack to retire.

Last weekend, most expected us to lose I would say, or maybe a more positive way would be most would have been surprised had we won. We hoped to play well and win or lose close. Not the blowout that happened, AGAIN. If you remember last year was a blowout as well, and Stoops has several other big blowouts of Mack Brown Texas teams. Now Texas fans want Mack to retire, they want Diaz gone, they like Harsin. Mack has gone into full Bobby Bowden mode, he's not quitting or letting fans run him out. He has a new contract that goes for 5 or more years. I'm sure it'd be expensive to buy him out.

There are Texas fans who appreciate all that Mack has done and hope he gets to retire on his own without being shoved out the door. I'm sure there were those same fans at FSU during Bowdens last few years as well. Now Mack hasn't been at UT half as long as Bowden was at FSU and Mack didn't build UT football like Bowden built FSU football. There are a couple more losses out there for Mack, I can't see us beating KSU on the road and I'm not even sure we can beat Baylor. If we lose to Baylor at home this Saturday the cry for Mack to go is going to reach new highs. I don't know what Deloss Dodds the Texas AD can do, Mack seems determined not to quit unless it's on his terms after a good/great season. Go out on top and he seems to think that is in the near future no doubt.

There were rumors that Mack was going to retire if he won the NC in 2009 which he thought he had the team to do it with, and who knows maybe if Colt McCoy didn't get injured early we beat Alabama, I think we were certainly good enough to do that but not without Colt. Will Muschamp would have been the new HC and Charlie Weis would have come as our OCoord. But that all went south.

If Mack loses 2 or 3 more games this season and Deloss forces him out, it's going to be ugly. If you remember Bowden was very upset that he was finally forced out and vowed never to watch another FSU game. It'll be ugly like that.

If Mack stays I don't know what he can do about Diaz, if he fires him, what top DCoord is going to want to come in and be possibly part of Mack's last staff if they don't get it turned to fans expectations in 2013?

As far as who Texas fans want to replace Mack.

    Chris Petersen Boise State
Nick Saban Alabamba...really some think it could happen
John Gruden ...again delusional thinkers think it could happen.
    Jim Harbaugh..more delusional fans.

    Gary Patterson..TCU
    James Franklin..Vanderbilt
    Kirby John Smart ..DCoord Alabama
    Art Briles ...Baylor
    Paul Rhodes ...Iowa State
    David Shaw...Stanford
    Charlie Strong...Louisville.

I like Charlie Strong, I like Chris Petersen, I like Kirby Smart, I like James Franklin.
